It feels like the wrong time for this movie. Kudos to Phoenix, but that was to be expected.

It was a bad remake of taxi driver

It was an uncomfortable movie to watch. Wasn’t that violent like people make it out to be 5-6 people die at most.

Movie wasn’t a joker movie it wouldn’t have made money if they hadn’t associated it with Batman.

It was all too open ended. Nothing in the movie potentially happened. The plot twist might be true or not true...

Not a plot twist or a spoiler but Batman’s parent die fking again!! Warner brothers you don’t have to do this in every movie we get it!!!

The plot twist in it weren’t even good

the love interest

So any time someone is nice to him it didn’t happen!!

She has a little kid then they never show her again so obviously that isn’t happening also

No chick ask you if you are stalking her and then go cool. Let fuck!

As for the this movie will make people violent or attack rich people. This is basically Bane story arc in dark knight rises.

The whole him being a hero and people following him and seeing him as a cult hero. That is probably all in his head.

He somehow survives the car crash and he is saved by goons to dance on top of the cop car. To only end up in the mental hospital...

Then the movie mentions the time he was in the mental hospital in the middle of the movie so maybe nothing even happened and he has been there the whole time!!

Also him being Batman’s brother is fking lame!!! I saw it as his mom lying. But my friend mentioned the picture of the mom that says love your smile TW(Thomas Wayne)

Based on reviews on IMDB, it was given or a 10/10 or a 1/10 lol, there's no inbetween, love it or hate it.
It's definitely notforeveryone, there where pieces of King of comedy, taxi driver, the killing joke, put them all together and you get this movie.
Yeah, we live in a supersensitive era for this movie to come out now, but hey, it's just a movie.
Phoenix was oscar worthy, the cinematography is amazing, the score is super depressing.

Exactly why I wrote earlier it would split the audience. Those giving it poor ratings simply expected something else.

Joker was a cluster fk.... I don’t get why people liked it. Might be worse then BVS

How was it a clusterfuck? Very straight forward story. Why do people like it? Because it was well acted and generally well made. This should not be confusing. Personally I thought it was fine. A bit too heavy handed in it's message for my liking.

Everything or nothing happens

It’s a build your own movie because the narrative can’t be trusted unless what they show you is obviously fake

The reviews giving it perfect scores made me watch it. It was exactly what I thought it would be

The acting was great. I don’t get why people are so uncomfortable with this movie. He kills 4-6 people and that’s all that die in a 2 hour movie. In black panther the villain basically we are the greatest country in the world with the best weapons let’s start a race war and become nazis!! I think that’s a bit worst.

I loved taxi driver this isn’t taxi driver. He says a few awesome lines like at the end of the movie. But for the most part it was boring and tried too hard to be relevant.

It was a bad taxi driver remake that wasn’t going to make money so they did reshoots you call the clown Joker and to add 2-4 scenes with the Wayne’s.

I just saw Joker. Hmmm I have mixed emotions about it. The directing was not that great.
Someone else could have done a better job. The story was there, just could have done better I think.
I feel like, if it wasn’t for Joaquin Phoenix’s amazing performance, it would be just meh.
Joaquin absolutely deserves and Oscar for this tho. Outstanding job!

Nope- I got exactly what I expected - character drama that makes you squirm. Joaquin killing it with his acting (he is in every scene). Doing the basic not-a-part-of-society-but-making-a-difference-in-the-end storyline and using some Taxi Driver and King of Comedy for it. Having the plot twist that is kinda a rip off of Fight Club.

I guess it would be 6/10 or 7/10 for me, but on the other hand it's a lot better than the new-era DC movies, so that is another reason why people get hyped. But I just don't see how a normal person would want to see this movie more than once. Even the fact that it's the Joker (top3 favourite comic book character ever for me) didn't make me think this is an instant classic or whatever.

I really liked Joker, thought it was faithful to the source material (the unreliable narrator and all that), though the structure of the movie was a bit too similar to king of comedy and taxi driver which kinda made it seem like a 70s/80s Scorsese copycat. But other than that, I really enjoyed it. Joaquin was amazing as everyone else has pointed out.

Faithful to source material? What source material are you speaking of?

Well, let me rephrase that. Faithful to comics/movies where he sorta had an (unreliable) origin story, i.e. mainly The Killing Joke but also recently Nolan's The Dark Knight (he changes his origin stoy of how he got his scars several times throughout the movie). It fits the character IMO, I like the line in the Killing Joke that touches on this, "If I’m going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice".

Okay, from the unreliable origin standpoint I don't disagree. However, this iteration in general doesn't feel like the Joker to me at all. The Joker despite any mental illness has always been extremely high functioning. This guy was an idiot

Exactly, don't put it in Gotham and it's a movie about a guy with delusions and other problems.

maybe he develops or evolves into that joker who is highly functional. Just remember how young Bruce Wayne is in this movie.

Well he should be pretty far away from becoming the joker we all know and love/hate, the real joker won't show up until 20 years later (depending on when Bruce becomes Batman) so there is a pretty big time gap there, you don't think he could develop his confidence/evil ways in 20 years? I also think we see glimpses of him being the confident maniac he will later become but it's still at an early stage so I didn't really have a problem with it tbh.

Or consider this, what if he isn't the real joker but is the one who ends up inspiring the real joker we see 20 years later. Either way, I think it works.

This Joker 20 years later would be either dead or physically not even a match for Scarecrow, let alone Bats.

Dudes, it's an okay movie, it's just so overhyped that it's funny to see how suddenly everybody loves a slowburn movie.
