@.h. since you ignored the striker partnership situation until 2016, maybe you'll prefer this:

@brehme1989 , just matematically speaking, you should consider total amount of goals Inter scored each year.
Your point is that Icardi had more important goals.... of course he had. What is the chance of a goal being winning if the average score is like 1:0 compared to the average score of 3:0 ? ... Just by pure chance it is way higher.

Not saying your point is invalid, just that you forgot to incorporate this important variable into the play.

if we take an extreme case where Inter scored 60 goals and Icardi scored all of them, they'd all be important, but it also reinforces the point that more of our goals went through one player.

If we take another case where each of our 25 players scored 10 goals (randomly), then the number of winning goals will be like 4% a player...

I have all that data in another sheet, this is just a specific request about the "usage" of certain strikers' goals.

Most of Icardi's "useless" goals came from hatricks or scoring 4 goals in a game, for example. Or scoring a goal in a rather big loss (ie vs Napoli). Completely different to Lukaku's 2 goals after the 85th minute in an already dead match vs Shakthar in the EL. But on the dataset they cannot be distinguished the way I made it, because it's just a basic snapshot. It also ignores assists or general contribution to a goal scored. It's just a simple metric, not meant to be taken seriously.

Eventually I'll figure a way to implement as much data as possible in all of these, for the moment I'm just gathering them for like 40 seasons or so and will decide at some point when I have a flash, what I'll do with it :D

Mauro Icardi - 19 games in the CL, 9 goals total
Romelu Lukaku - 31 games in the CL, 15 goals total

Give me Lukaku over Icardi any day of the weak.

What you're describing in all caps there is Icardi, not Lukaku, lmao.
Kinda the same stats, when you think about it, no?

In any case, we used both to the best of their abilities, but now it's time to move on. Neither of them are irreplaceble.

Stats wise yes they're pretty comparable. Lukaku over icardi is just a personal view.

I use this post as an example but it's a message for the entire forum. We have been trying to be lenient and interfere as less as possible. And what's our reward for this? Dealing with posts full of hate, insults and provocations between members. The members could take our stance in good measure, respect the rules and the other members and have a constructive discussion. But instead people choose to take advantage of it and exchange insults. Enough is enough.

It has been said many times on this forum.

Criticise the post but not the member. Don't insult other members. Don't respond to an insult with another insult. And don't try to bait others.

Mods/Admins hate being overly strict and they would want nothing more than moderation actions being reduced to the minimum. But if being strict is the only way to prevent this forum turning into a place full of toxicity and bickering, we will do it.

Come on folks. We, as a forum, can do better than this.

It was a joke, I always banter with Brehme ie Google.

Also someone previously attacked a nation saying you'll get stabbed, acid in face & blown up but you choose a post that's pure banter, well done pal.

I've seen plenty of aggressive posts and uncalled slating back and forth, but this post is what you single. Bravo.

These stats are a bit misleading, as it's clear that Icardi is a better finisher than Lukaku. But, if one takes in account, the whole contribution to the team, for me Lukaku is better, as he drops deep to receive the ball and distribute it. He also can use much better the open space due to his strength and pace. Icardi is nobody outside the box. Spalletti tried to move him wide for a while, and he was utter trash.
Saying that, I think he will fit good in Allegri's ugly football, as few chances created by jube will be focused mainly on Icardi, and he might be very decisive for them. But, i don't see them winning something with those tactics, unless the competition does not drop the quality significantly.

Yeah, even I dont contest that Icardi is the more clinical finisher than Lukaku.

lol. go find me a one ime lukaku dropped back o be another option when inter players had no idea how to get him a ball in his sweet spot when opponent eliminated that option go find me one time he dropped back and become a playmaker/second option to be vocal point for others other then him self

Lukaku is an option for long ball, when the opponent does high pressing, and we are unable to carry the ball from the back. If the opponent silence him and continue to high press, most of the time we were pathetic, but this is most on the coach. Anyway, you can see how Lukaku is involved in build up and link up play, and how he dropped back to initiate an attack.
Even in this game against Atalanta, you can see how often he went down to the center line, and behind to receive the ball and to initiate an counter attack.
If one puts this task on Icardi, he will fail in 70% of situations, because of his inability to shield and protect the ball.

It must be said that Icardi played as a lone striker while Lukaku in a pair I think that they had very different tasks on the pitch.

The job Icardi was doing at the time, Lukaku could never do it, and it's the same for Lukaku's job last year and the previous for Icardi.
The coaches, the teams and the way we played were different as well.

The irony is that Spalletti kinda forced Icardi to play this way as well and the success rate probably was on a similar level. Difference, apart from lone striker issue and lack of pushing central midfielders, is that we didn't have that many attempts with Spalletti's teams.

A tactical difference was focusing the middle (Conte) with focusing on the wings (Spalletti)
