Assnautovic has been average at best in his career, now he is shit, regardless of this lucky goal.
Arnautivic had a very solid game apart from his awful misses. He has some mental barrier and remind me of Dzeko in his first season at Roma.
Apart from his shitty finishing, I don't see anything shitty at him. He gets in goalscoring positions, he has good link up play, he contributes in build up play, he can receive the ball with his back.

oh boy, can't even dare to imagine what could have happened to his morale if he missed the goal too

hope he fulfills his destiny here finally, by showing up when the team really needs him, someday in a more important game. that would be enough to earn his redemption.

don't think about the fucking past and the chances you missed, think ahead.

Arnautović made genuine effort to find channels to run to and to fight for every ball, even in defence. Showed some good passing skills to get into scoring chances, missed a few chances, scored one.

This is the most I ever expected from him against such a hard opponent, so I'm not going to act like he did badly today. He was our best attacking player, he made a positive impact even tho he missed chances.
100% agree. Beppe Masterclass checks out

Him and Sanchez do add depth to the bench, to a degree. Not that they can replace Lauti and Thuram as starters from time to time. But he's a classic central forward. When opponents play terrorist football and we need to resort to dumping bodies into the box, he'll be useful. Always getting into good positions. Link up play is generally okay. Just need to clear his mental block and convert more clear chances.

Of course we'd value someone like Lauti who can convert half chances from tight space. But let's be real. That's not our expectation from Arna.

I appreciated the effort. It's not easy to play at this club, under that atmosphere, in a the knock out phase of the CL when he's never had the chance to play himself into form

Is this his first CL knock out game in his career?

This guy is cursed. Apart of these missed chances, he's done quite well actually. In fact, lately he's going through a good form (compared to earlier phase while he was complete garbage). He's doing many good things also in league matches, but these chances are letting him down. I feel sorry for him tbh.

Well, since Thuram has a knock, guess he should start vs Lecce. Did some good things today, other's frustratingly laughable. Score a brace against the Wolves.

I have a good feeling about him that the more he plays the better it will be, he is the type that needs to keep playing; we might be able to unlock him by playing him a few games in a roll with Thuram's injury this might just work out.
I agree. He actually did everything well today except finish. He might actually be finally starting to get into some type of playing form finally. It does take older players longer and he had some injuries early in the season. It’s also hard to gain confidence when you hardly play.

I think if he can score a couple of nice goals and get his confidence he can actually be a big help for us in the run in. Especially in Serie A.

Seriously, this is absurd reasoning. Defending a forward, whos main job is to score goals by saying 'he is ok, he's just awful at scoring goals' aka his main job.

Its like talking about a chef saying 'hey, he is great buying the right foods and sharpening his knives, his only fault is that he cant actually cook'...

Like thats some minor thing... STOP DEFENDING THIS ABOMINATION OF A PLAYER.

The only problem with Arnautovic this season was his long injury which came in a very unfortunate time. A backup should have better fitness/availability than that.

Other than that he has been better than Milik, Simeone, and about as good as Jovic. I'd actually take Arnautovic's 2 CL goals over Jovic's 2 Coppa goals though. In other words, as good as a backup gets.

You guys simply moan too much about a back up striker. Maybe you have a problem with his price, but that's not his fault.

He reminds me of Dzeko. He was actively involved in the play but one would wonder if he ever practiced shooting in his career. Twice he did screw up a simple finishing from the neat team moves and he almost cocked up the goal. It was an unconvincing shot for an empty net and it was barely cleared, fortunately his effort was just enough to give a lead. I am unconvinced by a striker who cannot score goals and I really hope Arna either improves his finishing (which is unlikely) or Lautaro-Thuram do not miss many games.

if he gets over the mental hump, he’ll be useful. Put into good positions time and time again, just has to be clinical. I know he’s been shit, I do, but he’s been in position to at least contribute( he’s fucjed it most of the time). Idk, I kinda feel like a redemption arc is there and he’s kinda taken the first two steps. We need this guy to be there. We absolutely do. Everyone here should be rooting for his turn around.

Recently he’s actually looked very lively when he’s played.

He’s clearly got some mental hangups about his finishing. His body language also shits me to no end and I don’t think these are unrelated. I’m convinced he’d be putting those chances away if playing in the moment and reacting to pure instinct. Instead he seems to put himself in a dungeon of negativity and it’s affecting him in front of goal.

I meant that his finishing was shit only at Inter. He was quite ok at Bologna. Since my suggestion that he has some mental block similar to Dzeko at Roma. This doesn't mean that he is a shit player, abomination and etc.
I defend him, because I see that he actually offers something to the team, despite his inability to score. Alike grill master like Correa for instance.
