I'll smash your face in

William Gallas last night warned Italian troublemaker Marco Materazzi: “I want to smash your face in!”

Chelsea’s French defender Gallas branded the Azzurri cheats and reckons Materazzi goaded Zinedine Zidane into getting sent off in the World Cup final.

The showpiece was skipper Zidane’s last match and Gallas fumed: “When I see Zidane leaving like this, I want to smash Materazzi’s face.

"I didn’t see exactly what happened but, sometimes, football is not just about what happens with the ball.

“Sometimes you have a player who is very clever, who says something to make you so angry that you want to kill him.”

Gallas, 28, added: “We all know how the Italians are. They always act like this — when they feel they are being dominated they try to provoke you.

“Yes, they are cheaters but we can’t stop that.

“FIFA and referees see only the second act. They never look at WHY there is an incident.

“I accept when the adversary wins with honour but that is not the case. We know Zizou, he doesn’t react like that.

“Sure, people can’t react like that but he has been insulted.

I don’t know what Materazzi said to Zizou. He has left without explaining. But I think it was very grave.

“When you play against people like that you just want to kick their butt.

It is cheating — but they are Italians. This is a problem which FIFA has to sort because it is difficult for anyone to keep calm when a player says something to make you react.”

David Trezeguet, who missed the decisive penalty as Les Bleus lost the shootout 5-3, also refused to condemn Zidane.

Striker Trezeguet, 28, said: “He can leave with his head high. Materazzi, even if he has won the cup, cannot — because there is more to life than soccer.

“We have to remember Zidane is an extraordinary player who had an incredible World Cup.

“I’m proud that he played for France and I’d like to thank him and give him my congratulations.”

So this gentleman didn't see what happened, doesn't know what was said, but he KNOWS Italians are cheaters and wants to smash Materazzi's face because he was head-butted by Zidane. :yuck:

I'll refrain myself from commenting this pezzo di merda guy or else I might get myself banned. ;)

Starting XI: What Materazzi Said to Zidane
The speculation has been running rampant about what Italian defender Marco Materazzi said to Zinedine Zidane to deserve a head-butt during the 2006 World Cup final.

Here are XI things Marco Materazzi said to Zinedine Zidane during the World Cup:

1. Why did you steal your other nickname from Carl Yastrzemski?

2. Jochen Kientz said he's been hit harder by his two-year old daughter.

3. These shirts are great for shining stuff.

4. Hey, I’ve been asked to see if you want to join Inter.

5. If I put on a sheet and tell you to retire right now, would you do it?

6. I just looked up in the stands and saw Bill Clinton smoking a cigar when he was sitting next to your wife.

7. Can I rub your head for good luck?

8. Where's the spot on my shirt?

9. I’ve always wanted to greet you Japanese style. How about it?

10. Where are the Americans to bail you out now?

11. I hear Goal.com has just signed you up for their Resident Baldy column.

Goal.com

No.6. takes it all. :D :D

Gallas...what a wanker. As usual, the French are just bitter because they're poor losers. I hope Gallas does join BBilan next season, so he can "smash" Matrix's face in. :boxing:

What a bunch of crap from Gallas he didnt see what happened, didnt hear what was said and yet it has got to be Materazzi's fault. :yuck: :yuck: :wallbang:

Some people continue to prove how dumb they are with each passing day but deep lying midfielder Claude Makelele takes the cake with his instant comprhension of a racial slur said in Italian.

If Zidane is truly a great man equal to his greatness as a player then he will come out with the truth and will not conflict with what Materazzi's account of the events. If the two are in agreement on what happened then I will be happy that the truth of the matter came out no matter what the outcome. Suspicion of the other party lying due to conflicting reports on what happened will only lead to more conflict and eventually Materazzi being labelled with every single insult in the book.

Zamat, that could be a lie...

Zidane may have told him but asked him and his immediate family/friends not to say anything and deny that they know?

LOL, at that Bill Clinton one.

Honestly on this whole Materazzi controversy all I can say is that Materazzi must of said something pretty messed up to get Zidane to headbutt him like that. That was one of the most vicious headbutts I have ever seen. Either that or Materazzi should quit footy and head to the theatres.

Though even I was sorta pissed off that whatever Materazzi said got him to react like that, Zidane didn't deserve to leave the game of footy (if he actually does) in such a manner.

From L'equipe.com:

Foot - Bleus : Zidane parlera mercredi

If I understood this correctly, then Zidane will reveal the reason Wedensday at 8 pm (France time I guess) on Canal Plus.

Maybe he waited for Materazzi to come out and say the truth first, I don't know, he may have to reveal that as well.

My suspicion is that he insulted his mom/wife/sister at best, or called him a nigger at worse. Materazzi only refuted the terrorist thing, but said nothing about other stuff.

In any case, I really hope it was the mom/wife/sister thing, otherwise it may get ugly.

bravo William Gallas, not only is he about twice the tough nut defender (you see people, Gallas is what a real tough nut defender is, hard at the ball, versatile and just a great player), he could also wipe Materazzi's ass in a boxing arena as well.
Bravo William, and one hopes that wherever Materazzi goes next season, that William does meet him and delivers his promise, because what goes around, comes around, especially to deep scum like Materazzi.

I also feel bad for the Italiani, although they weren't the best team, they deserved to win the World Cup, with all thats happened they deserve to enjoy it in peace, but its been overshadowed because of a "apparent" racist bastard in Materazzi, rather than people thinking of it as the WC that Italia won, its now become the WC where a thug hack got one of the best of all time sent off.

Confronting Racism, Head On
Why I Wear My Zidane Jersey
By DAVE ZIRIN

Imagine Michael Jordan in his last game, with the score tied in overtime, knocking out his defender with a punch to the throat. Imagine Derek Jeter in game seven of the World Series, at bat with the bases loaded, thrashing the opposing team's catcher over the head with his bat. Our collective shock would only be exceeded by disappointment. No one, fan or foe, would want to a see a great player end their career in an act that speaks to the worst impulses of sports: when hard competition spills over into violence.

Now imagine if Jordan and Jeter claimed they were provoked with a racial slur. Does their violence become understandable? Even excusable? Herein lies the case of French National team captain, the great Zinedine Zidane. Zidane, competing in his last professional match, was kicked out of the World Cup final in overtime for flattening Italian player Marco Materazzi with the head-butt heard around the world. Zidane, or Zissou as he is known, became the first captain ever ejected from a World Cup championship match. The announcers denounced Zissou for committing a "classless act and the French team withered, eventually losing to a demonstrably inferior Italian squad in overtime. The following morning the international tabloids with their typical grace, gave Zissou a new nickname: "butt-head. Less examined was the fact that Zissou was literally carrying a lightly regarded French team to the finals. Less examined was the fact that Zissou had been grabbed, kicked, and fouled all game by the vaunted Italian defense. Less examined was the fact that Zissou had almost left minutes earlier due to injury, his arm wilting off his shoulder like a wet leaf of spinach. This unholy amount of pressure is the primary reason the 34-year-old veteran snapped and planted Materazzi into the pitch.

Now the great mystery is what set Zissou off. What could Materazzi have possibly said to send him over the edge? Answers are beginning to filter out. According to a FIFA employee transcribing what was said during the match, Materazzi,s called Zissou a "big Algerian #@%!$. A Brazilian television program that claims to have used a lip-reader said Materazzi called Zissou,s sister "a whore. The highly respected French anti-racist coalition SOS Racisme issued a press release stating, "According to several very well informed sources from the world of football, it would seem [Materazzi] called Zissou a 'dirty terrorist'."

Materazzi, in an answer that can only be called Clintonian, said, "It is absolutely not true. I didn't call him a terrorist. Of course he didn,t comment on what he did call him. Zissou himself has only said cryptically that he would reveal what Materazzi said "in the coming days."

Right now, we do not know beyond a shadow of a doubt what was said but all the circumstantial evidence points at least toward a variant of SOS Racisme's claim. Zissou is the son of Algerian immigrants who has sparred verbally with Europe's far-right political machine for more than a decade. He is an outspoken anti-racist on a team that has defined itself by its multiculturalism and stubborn insistence to stand up against bigotry both inside and outside the sport. Materazzi on the other hand, will be playing this year for the Italian team Lazio, where his father was the former coach. Lazio's fan club, The Ultras, are notorious for their Fascist-friendly politics. Lazio's hardcore Ultras, known as the "Irriducibili," have members in Italy's extra-parliamentary far right and try to use the club to recruit. The group has frequently uses racist and anti-Semitic banners, one time hanging a 50-foot banner that said their opponents were a "team of #@%!$."

It,s wrong to taint Materazzi for the actions of Lazio,s fans, but there is more. Earlier this season in a match that pitted Messina against Inter in Sicily, Messina's star African player Marc Zoro famously picked up the ball and walked off the pitch in protest of the monkey chants rained upon him by Inter supporters. In a stirring act of solidarity, many of the Inter players immediately showed support for Zoro's actions. But one opponent yelled, "Stop that, Zoro, you're just trying to make a name for yourself." That opponent's name was Marco Materazzi.

At the start of this tournament I wrote a soccer column with my colleague John Cox, called Racism Stalks the Cup. We expressed our concern that the monkey chants, banana peels, and peanuts raining down on African players this year would continue on the sport's grandest stage. This largely did not occur. But then in the final act, at the moment of most exquisite tension, it seems racism may have actually emerged from the shadows. I, for one, am damn glad that when it did, it ran smack into Zissou's beautiful head.

We don,t know with iron certainty what Materazzi said, but if it turns out to be more of the anti-Black, anti-Muslim, garbage that has infected soccer like a virus, the Italian team should forfeit the cup. They should voluntarily give the greatest trophy of them all back to FIFA as a statement that some things in this world are more important than sports. Racism will be the death of soccer if things don,t change. Italy can set the sport back on course, with one simple, stunning gesture. Give the damn thing back.

brillant article, absolutely brillant, perhaps some of the nazis in this forum should read this over a few times.

lol @ the last paragraph.

How can they do that when they have politicians like this?

The far-right vice-president of the Italian Senate has stoked anti-French feeling in the country by branding Italy's World Cup final opponents "blacks, Islamists and communists".

Italy's all-white team, from a largely devout Catholic populace, had won against "a France team which sacrificed its own identity by lining up blacks, Islamists and communists to get results," Mr Calderoli had said.

This is just sad to read. You'd think racism is out by now, but then if you scratch some people's surface, you have layers of shit. And he is supposed to be the vice-president of the Senate!!!

However, I read that another member of the Italian parliament suggested a hearing against Materazzi if he racially abused Zidane.
