Inter Coach Spalletti Attacks Media: “Wrong To Say We Are Selling 12 Players, I Did Not Attack Marotta
Inter coach Luciano Spalletti stopped in the mixed zone at the San Siro after the quarterfinal loss against Lazio to answer questions from the gathering press.
“Generally it was an important test, in terms of the value of the match. We were a bit restrained in the beginning, we suffered a lot as the game developed. We let them hurt us with their frenzy and we made a few mistakes too many with the ball which happens often.”
“Against Torino we weren’t Inter, tonight we were. Then the details of the match hurt you when you don’t end up winning. This is how football works. Winning gives you a string sense of satisfaction and is stimulating for our club.”
Then Spalletti turned to Perisic and the situation regarding the Croatian winger, where Spalletti stated in another interview that, “I do not know if it was a good thing to say that the player wanted to leave”, seemingly contradicting club CEO Marotta.
“There is no need to create chaos. I have said that the fact that it came out was not good, this does not mean that I was attacking Marotta. I said that these are things that can happen, this had already come out before Marotta spoke about it. His agent had said it and so had the player himself. In the last match I was not satisfied with the lack of heart shown, tonight they showed that heart, force, spirit and tomorrow I will give them my hand and say that we move forward.”
When asked about that the Coppa Italia was a season long objective for Inter, the Nerazzurri coach became visibly annoyed with how the media have behaved.
“You invented that objective to play this game where you create attention. The objective is to proceed forward and to play good matches, not to win this game or that game. Creating tension about the team also influences the crowd who then whistle and jeer us, you create pressure. If you the day before this match say that 12 players are going to leave, that is wrong because it isn’t like that. Then if nobody comes and tells you this, it’s the problem of those who do not tell you.”
“I can tell you that this is hammered into the players heads that they are not good and that they have to leave Inter. You can’t do this the day before the match. There is a difference, which is why I always say the same things. If I don’t deliver results I am the first to suffer the consequences but we are defending Inter.”
