In all fairness, he did score for us during his very limited time, so his goal scoring ability wasnt completely crap.

It was his other attributes that limited his appearances wih us.

I rate Livaja higher than him.

Castaignos could have been smart and just been loaned out. Who knows what could have happened.

Don't blame Branca for a bit for him

Is it me, or are people overrating Livaja because of those goals scored in EL. Castaignos is definitely more talented then Livaja imo.

my opinion, if anyone cares:

Castaignos is (was?) a better goalscoring threat. He hasnt really blossomed into full form since moving back to Holland, its hard to know if he's "lost talent" or just needs more time. Livaja, on the other hand, is a MUCH better all action forward. He will excel in any of the forward three roles - in a way that Castaignos failed so miserably at Inter. That being said, I dont think Livaja is - currently - a better goalscorer. I mean, those EL goals as you say are a bit overrated, and he's doing reasonably well but not exceptional in Serie A, I would expect a lot more from him before I hail him as a good goalscoring threat. But, as a forward, I think he's clearly a good player, in the more Pandev/Rooney at the moment/etc. He has a long way to go, though.

tl;dr Goalscoring threat - Castaignos (a bit). Overall forward play - Livaja (by a long way)

I know that's just a joke, but he didn't fit the system. With Milito and Pazzini around, the last thing we needed was another center forward who was useless out wide, and that's exactly what Castaignos was. He scored the 1 goal against Siena but was 100% garbage every other minute he was on the pitch, both out wide and when played in the middle. He never should have been here in the first place, he was in way over his head. Should have left him at Feyernoord for another year.

Who cares what he did against children? He wasn't good enough for the first team, and that's all that matters. Should have been sent somewhere where he could play.

As long as I remember he rejected every offer of loan from Italian teams he had, Siena wanted him the most. He could gain some experience there (like Destro for example) and come back as a much stronger and mature player, but he preffered to stay and fight for the starting spot with Milito and Pazzini. So that was his choice, don't blame management for this case.

Scored some goals in the last rounds. Not spectacular but with good pace and movements. 12 goals in 32 games now. Okay, it's the Dutch league ...

Didn't he spit in some players face/mouth at Inter? And also, if I remember correctly, in a dutch interview that he wanted to get loaned out to his former club Feyenoord because he felt homesick. The management didn't want that so he decided to request a transfer.

Yes he spit at someone and got a 3 game ban if I'm not mistaken. Not that he was playing regularly anyways. Shame we never gave him a chance. I sure would have loved him instead of Rocchi these last months.

Bumping an old thread since Barcelona have been quietly linked to the striker...Curious what you lot thought of him

From what I remember he was forced to play on the wing which really didn't suit his strengths. Haven't seen him play since he left but he looked like a limited poacher from his time here.

I think he showed a good instinct and knew where the goal was.

He looked a faster/mobile Icardi, that's the best discription I can give. He's a little better outside the box, but he's a poacher, Ranieri compared him to Trezeguet.

As a youngster it's difficult to perform in Serie A, however Icardi has more experience in this league than Castaignos had with Inter, and besides he was being played out of position so it's difficult to judge him properly on his adventure in Italy, but of course he's a decent prospect.
