I agree, but at the same time it’s not as if Brozovic or Hakan were oozing footballing intelligence before they adapted to that role.
In a lot of cases, footballing intelligence is just footballing experience.
I agree to some extent however in most if not all leagues you focus almost exclusively on technical skills until you are 12-13 and then change focus almost exclusively to tactical so by the age of 21 your tactical attributes should be well defined. Hakan was always a smart player with really good vision, there is no comparison between the 2. Brozo on the other hand always had a huge tank and never seems to tire so he could always position himself well and continue to look for room the whole 90 min. Two different players with completely different play styles that adapted well to the regista role but due to completely different characteristics. Both of them have great passing tho.
Asllani simply has no idea how to position himself to receive the ball. If you watch any of his games carefully he tries to move wide to make himself available as a rule of thumb. He moves regardless if there is already an opponent there or not, he does not seem to be aware of where his opponents are or where his next pass should be or where his next BEST position should be. He does not seem to be able to adapt because he does not really understand the role. You can give him all the chances in the world but how will he be able to progress if he simply does not fit there ?
