I agree, but at the same time it’s not as if Brozovic or Hakan were oozing footballing intelligence before they adapted to that role.

In a lot of cases, footballing intelligence is just footballing experience.

I agree to some extent however in most if not all leagues you focus almost exclusively on technical skills until you are 12-13 and then change focus almost exclusively to tactical so by the age of 21 your tactical attributes should be well defined. Hakan was always a smart player with really good vision, there is no comparison between the 2. Brozo on the other hand always had a huge tank and never seems to tire so he could always position himself well and continue to look for room the whole 90 min. Two different players with completely different play styles that adapted well to the regista role but due to completely different characteristics. Both of them have great passing tho.
Asllani simply has no idea how to position himself to receive the ball. If you watch any of his games carefully he tries to move wide to make himself available as a rule of thumb. He moves regardless if there is already an opponent there or not, he does not seem to be aware of where his opponents are or where his next pass should be or where his next BEST position should be. He does not seem to be able to adapt because he does not really understand the role. You can give him all the chances in the world but how will he be able to progress if he simply does not fit there ?

He actually improved quite a lot last game, also knowing where to impose himself in defense duties.
We cannot expect him turn into a world class player overnight, but lots of good signs.

Kudos to Inzaghi still willing to play him.

Absolutely, I was pleased he brought Asllani in at 54 min already. Gives more confidence to player himself when he's trusted like this. And our game didn't hurt because of him. Calhanoglu was actually not at his best yesterday (or against Sassuolo for that matter).

Did fine today as a sub. I thought the yellow he was given was harsh, but I'm biased.
Wasn't harsh but I think he was the one being fouled initially. Or at least pushed in some way.

I don't like throwing youngsters in at such heavy pressure moments but if players can make it at inter..thats the sole way

Really liked how he got off pressure at that one moment

Yellow card was fair because he elbowed that Benfica player, and that looked intentional actually.

But in overall it was decent display by Asllani. He will only get better knowing that he has coach's faith.

He did that elbow thing twice in the match.

Happy for the kid he's having the trust of his coach.

I only caught the last 15 minutes against Bologna, but I didn’t mind Asllani’s cameo.

I liked that he didn’t just bring a “damage-control” mindset. There was one instance where he could have played a safe ball to Barella, but he held on waiting for a more ambitious option to open up, before picking out Sanchez in a dangerous position .

He should get some starts imo. He's part of the squad so needs to play from the start sometimes. Hakan also can't start every game.

Speaking to TV Klan via Calciomercato.com, Asllani first discussed his fight to break into the Inter first team, the competition with Calhanoglu and what role he wants to play.

“I have a strong opponent in Hakan Calhanoglu, one of the three best in his role from whom I am learning a lot. But I won’t give up and I will fight until the end. I have to work more in the defensive phase.

“I still want to grow physically, and I need to gain more minutes. I will be able to exploit the right minutes and I will not stop working to gain the coach’s trust. It’s not easy, given that I play for Inter. I also want to dedicate a lot of time to training.

“I came to Inter to play the role I also played in the Empoli youth team. In the minutes they give me I will have to give my best.”

He was then asked if he thinks Inzaghi follows the Albania national team when he’s playing.

“I don’t know, I think so. However, I’m always happy, here as well as at Inter.”

Got some playing time and match was still in the balance must have convinced Inzaghi on what his role is as first sub. Guess, he learning and impressing during the training sessions. Good, he's learning.

I feel like he’s looking a little better every time. Hope he keeps growing. Still needs to add more defensively.

He actually won quite a few challenges when coming on - I counted at least three. This is good experience for him - he actually has played more minutes in the CL this season than Serie A. Hope to see him feature more.

I would like to see him starting in some game with this busy calendar, entering Hakan in key moments in minute 65 or so. What Limone did with Thuram/Sanchez in the last cl game.

Perfect pass, placed right in front of Dimarco's foot. Beautiful to watch
