Javier Zanetti,
Football is indeed cruel. Just like life, in football you only have one chance, and the decision is always final.

More importantly football is hope, and hope is free, costs nothing. Not everyone can bring first, and you must learn to live with the pain. No one knows why God favours one man over the other........

Football is beautiful.

The moment the stupid red card was shown, I knew that Anti-Matrix will have another field day. No matter how deserved it is. It's hard to play when all your haters demand you a flawless games, to praise you. And even then they are searching for every small mistake. Materazzi would've been blamed if he would've not gone for that ball, Matrix would've been blamed if the free kick would've found net... It was matter of millseconds there does he hit the ball or not. Cannavaro would've gone for that ball the same way like Matrix did, Canna does those tackles all the time. "I knew Matrix would fuck up" like text is fucking impossible to read. You turn everything Matrix does into piece of shit in your mind... Barzagli better defender my ass.. Another overrated Palermo player I say. He is just enough to do well againist teams like Ukraine and Australia, but he'd be shit againist teams like Czech or Germany or someone else from the big ones. What Matrix did before that undeserved card was class defendeing, he and Canna worked amazing again and it would've been like that until the end of the match if there would've not been an undeserved red card...

I'd understand the criticism, if it was clearly deserved red, but it was far from it.

Great post, however Barzagli has great potential for the future!

i dont understand how is this a penalty?grosso did well,he got the ball went in and dribbled, the aussie defender was on the floor due to grosso's dribbiling, what should he do then?he didnt even do anything nor did he move any of his arms,he had his back to grosso, grosso tipped over him intentionally.

If something like this would have happened against inter i would have gone bannanas and if inter were the one that were awarded a penalty like this and if it was converted i would be hapopy for inter but i wouldnt justify the dive, really its just to obvious.

About Barzagli, he may be great prosepct for future, but up to this time, I think all the Palermo players got overrated after the last season. This season showed, that they aren't as good as they seemed.

Matrix makes stupid fouls, no doubt. He has always made those, he will always keep on making those, but this was not one of those. There aren't many players at Inter who play with such heart like Materazzi. Few years back I used to dislike him too until I understanded the heart he puts into game. I don't give away my respect to players so easily. They have to deserve it with something. Either their displays, heart put into game and into the club, but too bad others can't see what Matrix gives up mentally with his "never give up" spirit. He doesen't think twice when he is going to do something and I love it in him.

You Materazzi fan-boys crack me up. The guy is garbage, why can't you just admit it? Whether it was a straight red or not was debatable, but again Matrix almost ended up screwing his country just like he does with his club. Thank God he's suspended for the next round.

I feel for the Aussies as that was a terrible penalty, but such is life. They had a great tournament and almost ended up defeating a major football power in Italy. They should be extremely proud of their team. :star: Like with the US after 2002, other teams can no longer take Australia for granted.

P.S Pirlo continues to suck. :D

Stupid post. Debateable wether it was red?? Dude that wasnt even a yellow. It was a 50-50 call for yellow.
I feel so bad for Matrix, poor guy, he tries so hard, but always gets the raw end of the deal. He had been so good in this WC. GRANDE MATRIX. He is better than both Barzagli & Burdisso.
Its a pity that he has earned this much negative reputation, then even when he tries his best, his reputation comes to haunt him

He wasn't garbage against the Czech Republic, was he?

First, you claim the red card is debatable.

Then, you criticize Materazzi for letting his country down.

Dude, if, and only if the foul demanded an obvious red card, then, yes, Materazzi would be a great disappointment to his countrymen.

Ciao,
Tim

Australia owned Italy my ass. Italy created many chances and were in fact owning Australia, than following materazzi's red card you may have had the ball but certainly did nothing with it. Italy's defense owned you in fact. Grosso owned you, and Totti Certainly owned you. Pablo go drink a giant can of beer and cry on Paul Hogan's shoulders.

Italia's defense and Buffon are the best. I'm really excited for the future. Totti was great. Great sniping the PK under tremendous pressure but even before that. His impact was definetley felt. He was great on the ball creating chances and space. It was his pin point longball that led Grosso to make a great run. I think Totti has emerged back to his usual brilliant self and he will finally lead us to glory.

Also those of you who think the PK was a BS call learn the rules. Grosso's progress was stopped and you can see Neil even move his head and arms into Grosso's path.

FORZA ITALIA!!! Future 2006 Fifa World Cup Champions!!

PS. Where are all the Aussies?? They shouldnt hide, their team did a great job, and I definetly will not make fun of them

Thanks shahz and Brad for your great posts. Obviously you guys are pretty mature people compard to some others on this forum (faby and roberto).:star:

And to the other guys, aka Ziyad..thanks ;)

Its 4pm and i jsut woke up, i didnt get home until 6am.

During the whole game everybody in australia was singing not just because of where we were, but because of what we were achieving. We had the 'mighty' Italia pinned in their own half waiting for counter attacks. However they did have an edge over us in the first half but that is all.

During the whole last half an hour Australia made Italy look like Japan, they barely touched the ball.

58% to AU, 42% to Italy.

I know only the scoreboard counts in the end, but when the game finished yesterday i was in damn fkn shock and the 30,000 people around me were stunned too. I was saying id rather lose the game 6-0 then lose like that, but then later after the anger went I cameto realise that we were eventually going to go out..so what better way to do it then owning Italy like that.

So well done to our guys, you made a nation proud!

Good luck you guys for the rest of the tournament, you have no chance to win it lol but hey...credit to yous, your uniforms looked good out there:star:

yeh rite mate, italy owned asutralia...

you fuk wits, would be crying rite now if the game went the other way. if Australia was given that same penalty, theres no way it would be legit? right?. neil didn't even touch the guy, he ran into neil. you cant make a fkn foul when your on the ground, and nto moving towards somone.
and besides all the experts here said it was no penalty.

and yes, we couln't put away our chances, i know that, but then again look our ranking and players compared to yours. you verse a team like germany, argie... they will rape you. plus we were always outnumbered in terms of attackers to defenders. lippi, paked out his defence.

even when u were up a man against usa, u didn't dominate the possetion as much as we did. we deserved to win, and if u people think otherwise, then your all just looking at it with green, white, red eyes.

besides a few asshole were predicting, 2:0, 3:0, 4 :0

i can't wait till u guys get knocked out

some of these clowns on this forum don't represent true Italians, so I'm not going to badmouth Italy.

a nation of 19 million people in Australia just dominated a nation of 59 million people where futebol is their #1 sport and in Australia its about the #4 sport.

not to mention that Harry Kewell (easily the biggest threat for Australia) was on crutches, I do also realise Nesta wasn't playing.

the penalty, what a laughable penalty, since when is it a penalty if the attacker directly runs into the defender, Grosso could've went over him or around him, but being a joke of a footballer, he went straight at him.

Italy wins, Australia doesn't.

we can be proud, you still can't.

Australia had a great world cup and Gus Hiddink has molded them into a good cohesive unit. Congratulations to them for making it past the group stage and inspiring Australians. However I still feel saying Australia owned Italy is an overstatement. I think posession only counts when you use it effectively.

Helal I'm inviting you to hop aboard the italian bandwagon. Cheers mate:D

Catanha I agree Grosso could've went around but he would've lost posession lol;) . The fact is Grosso's progress was stopped thefore a penalty is warranted. Despite my bias,I think the call is questionable but not out right BS as some are stating.

Hey helal, you never know :D, may be Totti/Toni/Gilardino will be back on fire and bomb in loads of goals. Italian forwards have been pretty invisible for many games, hope they can regain their form before they face any stronger opponents.

Well i'm prud of wat the boys did. i usually don't even support the soceroos,, nor any major australian teams, but this time it was for the love of the game. this world cup has had the biggest impact on australia.

and roberto, we probably didn't own you guys, but dam we did the best we could, against a much superior opposition.

finally respect to Jhony Warren:)

A deserved win for Italy.

And Australia has improved alot with Gus Hiddink. One of the best coaches I've ever seen.

And referee left all the players in the world, and choosed Materazzi.

Red card?

You're realy unlucky Materazzi, and I'm proud that he's an Inter player.

People forgot that he didn't do any mistake, they forgot everything, and choosed the red card to talk about. And yeah, it wasn't even a red card!

Grosso, do the same with us.

And thanks Lippi for taking off that loser ( gilardino ).

Tanti auguri for the Italians, and goodluck next time to Australia.

How on Earth does more posession mean Australia "owned" Italy. This way every fuckin team on the planet owns Italy, cuz it's their tactics to lay back and counter. It's been their tactics for decades.

Aussies were one man up for 40 minutes and couldn't come up with a decent shot on goal. Owned...

It was nice that they got this far, but don't go crazy on some stupid stats when Italy had the chances to go 3-0 by half-time, only Gila and Toni screwed those.
