play off and mini-league arent the same thing

i think what is being proposed is a play off - as in equivalent to CL semifinals, two head to head matches, then winner of each side goes head to head in a one off match to win the league.

a mini league is one where each team would play each other 2x

Wherever they use play-off system to decide the champion, it's basically a mini league where the teams play each other twice, not ko games between them (e.g. Belgium). I don't know if FIGC want to implement it differently but that's how play-off system works.

The only fair way to do things at this point if the rest of the season were to be cancelled is to play the Juve vs. Lazio game in Turin and whatever the outcome of that game decides who wins the league. If Lazio could go there and win, they've earned it.

I'm for any situation that doesn't automatically gift Juve the title. Way too many games left to be played. A mini playoff between the top 2 or 4 would probably be the most fair, but I don't see it happening after all theses cancellations already taking place in Italy. There are 39pts still to play for and playing only Rube vs Lazio IS NOT fair. Check out their scum forum Serie A thread, 99% of them are shivering because of the playoffs!

We have played 1 match less the difference could be only 6pts. 6pts when theres 39pts up for grabs. Atalanta is a little behind , but still deserving a chance.

2. If between 4 teams. He will ask for Inter in first knockout( because thats the easy route to final) and Lazio vs Atalanta.

For us it doesnt matter, we could get a rematch against Lazio or Rube. Another chance! I wouldnt want to play Atalanta first.

but as far as Im aware, italy always uses a knock out system - e.g. promotion
obviously we dont know, but a mini league is 6 matches each, so 6 weeks - it'll take much longer than a KO.

The season is as good as done imo. Pointless not to hand a title or relegation over to a club regardless who it is.

Play off's are stupid. Maximum points accumulated at the point the season is called is the best bet for both scudetto & relegation.

in my opinion, if the clubs agree, play-offs can be considered a fair solution.

i would have them among the top 4 teams for the scudetto, but giving an advantage to lazio and rubentus: if after regular time and extra time it's a draw, they advance to the final, while atalanta/Inter would be knocked out.

that would take into account what has been done in 26 matchdays.


i would consider something similar for the relegation battle.

all the postponed matches (5, if I recall correctly) would have to be played first: that would also give sampdoria the chance of avoiding play-out, if they beat us.

one or two stadia could be chosen for the play-out, and it could be one-off matches: no point in having two-leg stages when playing behind closed doors, and probably on neutral ground.

it has to be pointed out, for the few that don't know it yet, that there is no rule as to how proceed in such cases. it's only happened once in italy, in 1915,

4 games could easily be played at the end of May to decide the title if playoffs went ahead (4 games assuming the game for 3rd place ) so scheduling that in could be done easily.

Right now, I see no valid reason to annul the season or assign the champions based on the current position when 4 games to decide the league could be pencilled in at any time once the dust has settled.

If we are in the same or a worse position come May then the trophy should be annulled however, and I know it’s a completely diff situation, but in 2006 when jube were caught cheating the 05/06 trophy was reassigned because the league ‘needed a champion’ so I wouldn’t be surprised if it happened again.

P.S. My memory of the events might be completely shit as it was over 13 years ago!!
