What makes Mediapro different? Will they stream HD or anything?

one thing has to be said about sky. it's very popular in italy, probably because the only competitor in the past (mediaset premium) is so bad compared to them, i mean in technical aspects (full hd and stuff).

to the point that not even losing champions league for three years lost them a significant number of customers to premium: most people gave up champions league rather than give up sky.

and in the end mediaset, having lost so much money in this, had no choice but de facto sell premium to sky.

i think this popularity somehow gave sky some kind of moral leverage. it's like there was this kind of feeling in the air: "why change when it works so well with them?".

so for serie A clubs it was relatively easy to 'drop' mediapro, as soon as they saw a chance. italy being as machiavellic as it gets did the rest.

now i expect sky to pay at least as much as mediapro would have paid, surely this must have been part of the 'deal'.

I thought the reason why Mediapro's offer was dropped was their failure to provide the financial guarantees...
Also, I believe several clubs would be more than happy to get finally rid of SKY and their gang of juventus-sucking "pundits" if there was a viable alternative.

I've never set foot in the country so forgive my analysis if it comes across as being rude or insensitive, but from my outsiders observation based on what I've seen over the decade-plus I've followed the league, Italians are even more allergic to change that Australians and even more into nepotism than Koreans.

First of all, don't worry about being rude. If I ever get offended about anything, that's certainly not Italy (for instance, that might be a stranger taking way too much freedom in making uncalled for remarks about my private life, as if we had been buddies together at school. but that's a bullshit story).

True, we Italians are allergic to change. This is not much different from what I have written.

Of course, i want to point out, I simply offered my perspective from Italy, but I don't know much about business or about the shady aspects of it.

It's certainly true the part about sky being popular, it's incredible how they went through the ordeal of losing champions league nearly unscathed.

Pretty much the entire Mediterranean area (maybe with the exception of France, but maybe not really in the south and it'd be silly to call someone living in Paris a Mediterranean person) and the Balkans have a similar outlook and mentaltiy in life. Each different culture simply exaggerates other things more. Bureaucracy for example is too much in any situation, but nothing comes close to Greece. Italians complain about bureaucracy as well of course but so do everyone else. Then they learn about Greek bureaucracy and are told to stop complaining. Driving like crazy is a phenomenon everywhere in this region, but I think Egypt takes the reins. Everyone is good at talking too much and doing nothing. Everyone has their element and everyone else says "at least we're not like 'instert country name'".

We also love our kings and dynasties, whether they're royalty or not. One's last name can take him anywhere and every bad thing he does can be forgiven for no logical reason.
Anyone who wants change is either a weirdo or an outcast. We're a minority and we feel unwelcomed :) But take us away from home and we'll end up crying to go back

They did provide them, later on.

They were rejected for technical reasons. I repeat, I know little about the situation, but I doubt anyone would be so stupid as to drop a more lucrative deal for the sake of maintaining the status quo.

Does this have nothing to do with the fact that most of the customers are Milan and Inter fans? (their clubs not in the CL)

Rumours of Mandrogara to Genoa from Juve. Like someone mentioned in another post, probably a type of deal where you'll see Genoa get some of Juve's players.

To be fair, we also used our good relationship with Samp where we got them to pay 15 million for Caprari in the Skriniar deal lol.

if Romas squad was as world class as their Twitter guys... i hope this signing means they unlock nainggolan to inter, but i am afraid that they are just getting ready to give up on pellegrini who has a very low release clause by today's Standards (25m)

Serie A TV rights transformed
By Football Italia staff

The Lega Serie A decided today to transform TV rights from the 2018-2020 seasons, forcing viewers to sign up with more than one broadcaster.

While the Premier League is at the forefront of TV rights sales and has split the games between Sky and BT Sport – now adding Amazon Prime to the mix – the situation had been different in Italy.

Sky Sport Italia currently have rights to every single Serie A match shown live, while Mediaset Premium can transmit only certain teams’ home games.

After the deal with Mediapro fell through because of a Sky Sport Italia antitrust lawsuit and lack of financial guarantees, the Lega Serie A Presidents met up again today to discuss the situation.

They agreed to start a new bidding war, but split the rights up into different packets, orchestrating it in such a way that no one broadcaster can show every Serie A game.

This is likely to infuriate fans and consumer rights groups, who feel it would force football viewers to purchase contracts with more than one broadcaster.

Sky and Mediaset have put their feud behind them recently and struck an agreement to share some channels, which could be a precursor to working out a football rights split too.

Selling the rights for the product at various kick-off times rather than the platform should bring an extra €300m to Serie A coffers.

There are more problems, as the rights would be sold so they can’t be shown on free to air television until after 22.00 local time.

This, again, is similar to the Premier League model, but would effectively end historic Italian shows such as 90’ Minuto, which airs the highlights of that afternoon’s games at 17.00 local time.

From next season, Serie A matches should be spread out over Saturday, Sunday and Monday night.

There will be three kick-offs on Saturday (15.00, 18.00 and 20.30), four on Sunday (12.30, 15.00, 18.00 and 20.30) and one on Monday (20.30).

Not only Sky Italia fucked up the Mediapro deal, they are also forcing viewers to pay more in collusion with Mediasat :awyeah: They can fuck right off!
