Is Christian Vieri actually going to get called up? Honestly, what does everyone think? If he and his whooping 3 goals for Monaco gets the nod over the likes of Lucarelli, Tavano, Cassano (brilliant player regardless of attitude or weight problems) or even Inzaghi, the Azzurri are destined to fail.

Inzaghi should be called up. Vieri and Cassano should not, Cassano has not played a proper game for Real Madrid.

Lucarelli and Tavano's chances really depend on other strikers. We have no idea whether Del Piero and Totti will be on form, and fully fit. I think one of them will be called up though.

Italy is apparantly facing injury crisis, from goalies to defenders and then strikers. It doesn't look good at all :depress: .

Italy have always had crazy selection problems, alot of it isnt based on form. Credit to Klinsmann who is running Germany very well, Lippi can learn from him and Van Basten.

Now don t tell me klinsman selects players by form!!!!!
He just takes the one he likes most and the one he thinks would fit best in the team!!!!
I mean look at Podolski and kurani both are playing shit fore there teams but are mostly starters in the nt!!!
And wörns probably the best defender in the back round does not get a call up not even fore a frindly!!!!!!!!
In my eyes Klinsi is worse then Mancini when it comes to favouritism

Klinsmann has been fair in his selections. Youd be a nut not to call Padolski and Kuranyi to the WC.

Sorry helal i think that poldi is a great talent , but the whole season of 05/06 he was crap and i mean crap but still he always was a starter in Nt there were way better forwards then him at this time and still it was always poldi who played.
And it was not like poldi only suckd with his team and played well with the Nt no he also sucked with NT.
So please don t tell me that fore NT u don t have to look at the courent form of the player!!!!Coz poldi was one of the worst striker sthis season and still always played!!!
On kurany he was not as bad as Poldi but still there were a lot of inform germans who never got the chance to show what they can do fore they re nt!!!!

I understands that he takes them to the Wc but in the form they are right now they should sit on bench !!!!¨

hehe as an Italian and from Rome, I should by origin not support the Azzurri. I can't say im a huge fan, but i hope they do well just so Totti can finally prove he is one of the best in the world.

But why Lippi doesnt take Panucci.... pure idiotic.

It's Capello that takes Panucci

I think it's very idiotic to base the whole WC chances on prior season form. Okay, sometimes it fails depending on the stupidity of the manager(Bielsa 2002-Batistuta in Crespo's stead. Crespo led single-handedly Argentina to the top of the quals that time with 12 goals...)

But Vieri "lost" it after an injury against Valencia. We all remeber that game(i hope) He was the best striker in the bloody world at the time, so was Coco the best lb in the world. Both still got it, but now they will perform in Serie B in the same way they did in A  For reasons of morality, I think Vieri should be called up, and so must Toldo(if he recalls international retirement). Toldo should have been starter in 2002 but anywayz...

In Italy its different, not everyone supports the national team, some are ashamed of the (see Frisko) but I am one of many (mostly right winged teams tend to have the biggest national supports) who LOVE the Italian NT no matter how well they play!

Fabio :star:

P.S There is an international Ultras scene starting up, with VIKING Italia! :D

And btw, hopefully the surprise will be Cassano, I dont expect him to be called up but I still think he can offer the NT something!

Fabio if you want to by my spokesman I suggest you do it in the crap thread.

I am not ashamed of the NT by itself, I surely am ashamed of their perfomance since 94.

Lippi is doing what no other coach of the NT has done since ages, he's doing what he thinks is right, calling up players he wants instead of doing as he's told by the federation.

As much as I dislike the guy, that shows guts. Now the big question is: will Italy go to the WC and play crap football, with constant long balls from the midfield and the defence, or will Lippi try and use the huge amount of talent he has at his disposal? We'll see soon enough.

I totally agree with you Fabio. I think Cassano no matter if he isnt playing at Real or not deserves the call up. He is more gifted than Inzaghi/Iaquinta/Tavano/Lucarelli so why not he has proven himself at the Euro. It makes not that much sense to me that we have a class player not called up because he is behind the pecking order at Real who's chaotic moves probably stalled his progression there too!

To me if they call him up I will rejoice. I also am a diehard italia supporter too. Even though my direct family of italian origins now is in Switzerland I still have alot of my Italian roots and its the first nation I support.

Im looking forward to the World Cup and I hope we can get our 4th

Forza Azzurri!

Woah woah woah I didn't think what I said was out of the ordinary because you have said yourself you have been ashamed of the team in the past.

This Italy is completely different, hopefully it can build on its destruction of Germany...
