welcome to the "mini champions league" :yao: :yao2:..........

We will have like super hard time at CL too. I'd say reaching to top4 would be very good by this team.

welcome to the "mini champions league" :yao: :yao2:..........

jokes aside it has good teams and is still a big trophy

since its inception the winners are

Atletico Madrid x 3
Porto
Sevilla x 3
Chelsea
Manchester United

All big names, we should be proud and hope to have our name up there aswell.

Since we still have squad registration restrictions, I think we'd need to be very lucky (injuries & form) to progress very far in EL.

Now that I have slept over the initial anger and disappointment, I can say that overall our CL campaign was quite encouraging. We got an extremely tough group, and we almost made it out of that. We beat Spurs once and took a point of Barcelona. Thats not a bad return to CL football, considering just 2 years ago we were in a dark, dark place staring at the bottom of the barrel.

Yes, that does not take away from the fact that we screwed up massively yesterday - we failed to win our easiest tie of the round. There is a lot of blame for yesterday for Spalletti, players, etc but I guess you could also blame the lack of experience at this level - we did attack like headless chickens most of the time yesterday.

However, if you stand back and look at our performance over all 6 games in the CL, its been quite decent all things considered. I certainly did not expect Inter to qualify from this group when the draw came out, if I remember correctly none of us did. We hoped Inter qualify - but thats different. At times like these, its good to take a step back and look at the bigger picture - Inter are on the right track over the last 18 months.

We should take encouragement from this, and now focus on qualifying for the CL again. As long as Inter finish top 4 this season, we stay on the right track. Hopefully we will fix some of the gaps in our squad over the summer, and qualify for CL KO stage next season. That is our path.

This is definitely true.

I was however a bit disappointed we couldn't get ANY clean sheet in the group stage.

Still bitter about this defeat. The crazy thing is most of us as FIF members were expecting sth like this to happen that's why everyone here (atleast posts I recall) said we must win regardless of barca vs spurs. The insane part is spalletti putting on a defender and his stupid reading of the match, keeps doing that crap idk why. Always taking the coward option, the truth ladies and gentlemen is we blew it in wembley we had to tie but that's not how you approach a match, we had to win but we took the hard and untenable option again which is to play for a tie and ergo what you see infront of you today.

The main problem was simple. We forgot that football is 90 minutes game. We thought it was 75 minutes.

I have been crushed by our failure to qualify for the round of 16. I am still very angry and bitter. It has not helped that one of my best mates is a Spurs fan and has been taunting me ever since.

Many supporters, myself included, did not expect us to qualify for the next round. Given that we had been drawn in the hardest group, had a limited squad and were labouring under FFP restrictions, I feel we did quite well. But that does not make failure to qualify any easier.

Honestly, when I think about it, I am not upset that we will not be playing in the round of 16 of the Champions League. The Group stages highlighted that despite our proud history, we were very much punching above our weight and simply did not have the squad to progress any further. Like I said earlier, if the best we have is Borja Valero and Candreva, then we may as well stay at home and not bother.

What is upsetting for me is the potential revenue that we have missed out on and the manner in which that will impact our winter and summer transfer campaigns. Second to that is the cowardly manner in which we capitulated: at home, to PSV, with everything to play for. I believe this team has a mental fragility that stops us from competing and that is not helped by Spalletti's decision making in terms of player and substitute selections and tactics.

Towards the end of the game, I was thinking: "This could all come unstuck if Spurs score" and shortly after, it happened. The worst part about it is that we were content to gamble and play for a draw. In my view, that was a cowardly way for us to attempt to finish the game. With everything on the line, we tried to qualify for the last 16 by doing the bare minimum. And for me, that is unforgivable.

I dream of a bold and confident Inter. A team that competes and plays as a collective, whose players do not drop or lose their heads when the going gets tough. Right now, we are so far away from that ideal that it is demoralising and utterly depressing that we cower to the likes of PSV at the Meazza.

you are right puma , for me personally if we had won by big margin by playing boldly and controlling the match and then not qualified I would have been sad but accepted it even though we got knocked out by losing in wembley.
The problems are the following though:
1) Lots of talk no action (spalletti saying this is the most important game for him so far, is this how you approach such a game?)
2)Wrong tactical choices and approach (what will candreva add and why even start perishit)
3) Serie C level of football by asamoah in that goal and player umarked
4)obviously fragile weak mentality, kept losing the ball and risked a couple of goals from psv on the counter.
5)Unclear tactics , some said politano was dead so sime came on so why was he LB?

I am still bitter and depressed because we had in our hands no one expected us to qualify, we were doing okay but as usual we destroyed everything with our own hands. Sigh, what a loss.

Just forgot to add, psv is literally one of the worst teams in CL this year, if you can beat such a team at home infront of all of these fans that came to support you then you don't even deserve to be in the CL because this is beyond ridiculous to be such a choker and weak team in terms of mentality we will never win with these players even if juventus somehow disappear because we are not winners, winners always find a way no matter what, just look at spurs playing in camp nou was pressuring all the match until the scored, right approach, never backed down and brave coach everything we are missing.

busy day at work today. just remembered we got e l i m i n a t e d from the champions league because we couldn't beat a rock bottom PSV side at home  Spalletti the football philosopher

You know what's funny Uni, spalletti is a actually a scam artist he talks the talk but doesn't walk the walk. Before every match he says sth logical & powerful but the end result is pathetic stuff, all this while being the 3rd highest paid coach in SERIE A.

Disappointing result. How we couldn't even beat a non-motivated PSV side? Let's go for EL then. The squad isn't good to fight in CL knockout stage.

their motivation is their anger about the referee decision taken in the away match when Samir was only shown yellow instead of red card.
Now I think what if the referee sent Samir off when we were down by 1-0? probably we would lose or draw, but play with different approach against barca and tottenham, so would PSV who'd have better motivation.

In the most fascinating and highly unlikely Europa League scenario I can imagine - for us, but also for the multitude of Italian "storytellers" who write about football and like to romanticize the events - there would be these two semifinals:

Inter-Milan (no introduction needed) and Napoli-Chelsea (Sarri & Zola, Ancelotti... all against their own, more or less recent, past).

And we have a nice history of UEFA Cup finals against other Italian teams (Roma and Lazio).

Reality is a tricky Inter-Udinese incoming and the need to move on from Inter-PSV, but we need palliatives.

fuck, I keep just randomly remembering our elimination from the CL.

I'll be working or driving or eating or whatever, focused on something else and then boom, out of nowhere "we got 6 points from the first 2 games and then TWO points from the remaining four" and I just feel my head spinning with immense irritation.

I'm fucken paying attention to paying some bills online and then boom, all of a sudden my head is filled by the vivid mental image/memory of us going from 3 back to 4 defenders with Vrsaljko playing at left back and playing backwards passes between Skriniar and de Vrij to waste time and that head spin comes back.

Taking a shit then I remember the groans from the San Siro crowd when Tottenham scored and how you could literally feel the palpable dread in the stadium atmosphere and the panic in the players as they mounted more clueless attacks forward

Such vivid, horrifying memories. Thanks, Luciano :proud:
