What a horrible second-half performance. This is why we should remain focused and respectful of our opponents, rather than playing the primaveras as some have suggested.

A positive takeaway from Genoa is that they allowed us to review our defence and showed us our flaws. Their far post cross and long balls are really bothering us.
The Inzaghi coaching staff will have a lot of research to do to analyse this game.

That remark was after the scudetto was secured mathematically which is first and earliest in 6-7matches currently, and wasn’t a suggestion but more a remark of not carrying if we did.

Ugly win but it still counts as 3 points.

I'm quite active in this forum in a daily basis, and I haven't seen someone suggest playing primaveras in the league matches

I think people should give more credit to Gilardino than shitting on our players this game; basically he is the only one I have seen exploiting a 3-5-2 natural weakness, there were a lot of modern tweaks Inzaghi did to eliminate the natural weakness, but when it is still a 3-5-2, and not a 5-3-2, that weakness will occur, and the timing was the key. The optimal crossing spot was just pushed back than the old time ones.

Also Genoa basically has been MMA our players the whole game.

They actually went even rougher, especially on Toro in the second half.

With that said we were still the superior team for the entire game. It just shows how good the team and the coach are, even the weakness isn't that weak.

Don't have one.
Their far post cross and long balls are really bothering us.
Spot on with this one. It truly is one of our weaknesses. Think atletico used it as well a couple of times and generally speaking every time we had a bad spells around our box this year it was caused by those crosses. Hopefully it gets addressed.

Also, I think we kinda hit the wall with our energy in this game, which is totally understandable given the levels we showed in recent times.

Credit where credit's due on the Genoa goal, it was extremely well-worked.

On the cross in, Darmian spotted the runner before the ball was played and was already retreating, he just wasn't tall enough to get in the way, the loft was perfect. De Vrij cleared that away, but then the first-time finish immediately after which evaded Mkhi, Pavard, went through De Vrij's legs, and then evaded Augusto as well...sometimes there's not much else you can do.

I know a lot of attention goes to that the chance began after the Asllani turnover, what I'll say to that is that it clearly looked like Asllani and Barella were trying to do a 1-2 exchange to get Nico running on the ball into the middle of the field, and when Asllani played that little backheel, he expected Nico to be running onto it. But Nico had run into the player in front of him, wanted a foul (rightly not given), and now it was a loose ball to be pounced on. Combination play where the timing was thrown off. Mark that one more for the dangers of a combo play in the middle of the field like that, but maybe pinning that entirely on Asllani feels a tiny bit unfair, because those kinds of anticipation plays need to be done with an element of subconsciousness, that's how the timing is designed for them to work.

Genoa were giving us all kinds of problems aerially. It's no wonder that Inzaghi brought on Bisseck (6'5") and Acerbi (6'4") to replace Pavard (6'1") and slide Augusto wider and replaced Dimarco (5'9"). This game called for height, and we had some to work with. I imagine Dumfries would've remained out as well if he wasn't booked, but it was also 2-0 and Inzaghi probably felt ok with his decision at the time to bring on Darmian.

we don't really have much of a bench.... Thuram coming off injury... then the two wingbacks. Fratessi is probably not ready so our MF is just a bunch of youth players which we won't use.

Hope Atletico isn't watching this to see how to easily beat us with better players. Worst we have played this season
Are you rooting against us?:)

And to think some people want to see Pavard play in the middle LOL

Just finished watching the match. Beautiful first goal from Asllaini. The we were awarded was a complete joke, but whatever. Solid, cagey win. Scudetto is just about locked up now. If we beat Bologna it will be over.
