I watched a game of Atletico when Kondogbia played and he was a boss. All over the pitch intercepting like prime Kante. But I've only seen one game.

The problem with Kondogbia never was his quality or his skills. The biggest issue with him always was his mentality. He doesn't have the right mentality to succeed at a top club and he has admitted so himself. We have already seen this. When Inter got Valero and Vecino he decided to leave the club at all costs instead of staying and fighting for a position with Gagliardini, Valero and Vecino.

I see what you're saying.

Except for a few aliens like Messi and CR, every football player is a human athlete. What the coach is supposed to do is make the team play his way while also playing to the players strenghts. I'd say coaches like Mou, Conte and Simeone focus on defence and that's why defensive players look so good for them (not always, but mostly). Like De Vrij is great for us right now, but he wasn't that good with Spalletti, because it's a different type of defence. Skriniar at first wasn't bossing as a RCB, but he's been getting into it.
