spalletti said that and there is no reason not to believe him, but he's to blame if people think like this: it took him way too much to use karamoh as a starter and it wasn't because of injuries or poor shape. so of course one might assume that he's being "cautious" with rafinha, too. i hope he won't wait for rafinha to be in shape a single minute more than necessary before fielding him for more than 45 minutes.

I actually do like that formation. Valero finally getting some rest.

If we end up playing 4-3-3 and Rafinha plays as RCM that would be awesome. It means Cancelo, Karamoh and Rafinha, all our inform players together on one side.

i think spalletti would be happy to play rafinha 90 mnutes, but i beleive he just does not have the minutes yet.

Playing him in the second half allows him to get in when the other team is getting a bit tired, so he would be more effective, and also to keep things organized on the field and avoid going into panic mode.
OTH, starting him (with the idea of subbing him in the second half) might get the right tone for the game and give us a lead, and also to see how much gas he really has in the tank, then put Valero for the last 30' against the tired opponents.
