I don't get the hype around Maxime Lopez. I really liked him when he first introduced himself to Serie A. But over the years, our registas just keep getting so much better and hence the standards have been raised so much faster than Lopez's developed. To the point I no longer see how he can ever add anything to this team. Lopez's neat on the ball and that's it, while we need much more from our regista. Brozovic then and Hakan now are both tidy on the ball, but on top of that, they are also much better in defense, much better in chance creation, much bigger goal threat at range,... Asllani is nothing special now, but at least I can see a small chance that he can develop into something useful, I don't see that with Lopez at all.

The truth is when the news first broke out, I was much more intrigued by Soumare than Lopez. And Soumare went on loan to Sevilla with option. That's a much bigger miss than Lopez, at least Soumare could be the physical profile that we were looking for, Lopez would just add nothing.

Think we would have got him for sure if asllani didn't refuse to move. That's probably what happened in that meeting between us and his entourage. It was reported there was a meeting and then afterwards silence from all sides.
