Its interesting cuz we've basically always had - except for Toldo - a useless 2nd keeper and used the 3rd keeper as basically coaching or homegrown player. Our 2nd keeper for most clubs is probably a 3rd keeper.

I remember Castellazzi being decent enough for a backup keeper.

Castellazzi was great. Carrizo was hilariously shit but good for comedic value. Padelli is/was a legitimately solid keeper.

I’m not one who looks for reasons to blame management. But I blame the poor performances both on Padelli’s own mental fragility and the fact that he’d played only 2 games in 2 fucking years before last week.

Admittedly, there hasn’t been much occasion to play Padelli. Our 2 league seasons since his arrival have gone down to the wire. We also don’t have a useless extra competition like they do in England with that Carabao Cup bullshit. But we could’ve/should’ve given him an extra game here and there in the Europa League and early stages of the Coppa Italia.

It’s not the amount of games as much as it is the regularity and keeping him “fresh”. 1 game every few months is better than 1 game every year. May as well be defrosting a corpse at that point.

Now we’re trialing a free agent because the idea of playing Padelli for just 3 weeks is terrifying the management. Is he that unusable / un-salvageable?

Getting Viviano is a slap in the face of Padelli. Yes, he made rookie mistakes, but he is our second goalkeeper. Effectively we're ousting him for not letting him play even a couple of games a year, as Uni outlined. We set him up for failure. Is his career or well-being more important than our season, I won't go as far, although I feel for him. Thing is the management should've known better indeed and keep the idea of Handanovic being out for a couple of games on the back of their minds all that time. Either get a new backup GK, if you deem Padelli sub-par or just fucking play him from time to time, so he doesn't forget what's it like to play in front of actual fans on an actual stadium.

Padelli is being painted as a scapegoat by both the fans and club (or should I say Conte?). Watch the first half, we were hardly a well-oiled and performing machine that was only compromised by the so-called butterhands goalkeeper. We have to be realistic, we underestimated the opponent, they pressed and stepped on the gas immediately and we ended up stopped in our tracks. I would also like to remind that in the past (and only) 3 apps that Padelli had for us, he was always pretty good, even kept the clean sheet in the previous match. This pompous witch hunt is only going to shatter his self-confidence and morale.

Up to Handanovic's injury we were also conceding quite a lot of goals this season, too much actually. And while my distaste for Spalletti is very well documented on FIF, I will credit the filosofo with focusing on our defense a lot more than Conte appears to. Our defenders are world class but we keep having positioning and marking issues. Our midfield lacks routine and is constantly alternating due to injuries and we simply lack fluidity and confidence in the defensive phases. There is obvious confusion when it comes to individual tasks and whatever Conte's systems are, they are not gelling. Despite having 3 in the back, it often feels like there is only one center back when push comes to shove.

To add insult to injury - we are thinking of replacing Padelli with motherfucking Viviano, a goalkeeper whose most impressive CV entry is Fiorentina. A man known more for his obnoxious facial hair styles than actual skills or saves.
Padelli is not world class, nobody is claiming that he is. But chunk of blame for his performance is also on Conte - he should've integrated him earlier, from the Coppa get-go. Man got no proper minutes in years now, no wonder he needs a few matches to shake off the rust.

Getting Viviano has more to do with Berni than Padelli. Berni will never play for Inter and he was never supposed to. He has a spot on the roster for other reasons. We need a Padelli backup till Handanovic returns and that's why we're getting Viviano.

Stankovic only started playing for the primavera this season. We shouldn't put unnecessary pressure on him.

I would say Toldo was also a useless 2nd keeper but that’s just me.

Rotting on Albacete bench. Another typical successful loan move for a promising Inter player.

How promising can he be if he can’t play at the 19th placed team in the Segunda division.

It's been almost 30 years whithout goalkeeping issues : Zenga, Pagliuca, Toldo, J.Cesar, Handanovic.

Now for the first time as Inter fan I'm a little worried about that post*

*yeah I know Perruzzi and Frey.

Shaky.... shaky as shit, sadly. I'm really worried about him against Lazio. Surely, we won't be seeing him on the pitch ever again, probably, but he should make sure not to go down in history as a complete liability in the next one or two games. IMO he needs a good save to shake the stress off and gain some confidence, I'm afraid he didn't save shit today... had some questionable attempts at rushing out of goal on a couple of occasions before the goal, the goal itself I doubt he could've done better, being in the position he was in, although I also doubt Handanovic would've fucked himself up as badly as Padelli did to begin with.

100% got caught on the wrong foot on the goal. He also tried to punch the ball at one point and completely failed, almost punching Moses to oblivion.

I swear he looks just like a random player, that took the goalkeeper's shirt because of a red card. The last three goals we conceeded are for him.

Yeah, that was just fucking AWFUL.

Like why the fuck do we have a 2nd GK which is THIS bad? Or if it's just rustiness, why not use him a bit more often?

Is it just rustiness? I think he never expected to start and now that it happens that we actually need him, he is absolutely terrorized. He is completely lost, I won't lie, whenever the ball comes near him I expect him to do something dumb.

Cant blame him, I blame the management more. Almost every top team have a competent second GK, no matter how injury-free the first GK. Padelli and Carrizo are bad even for second GK standrad. Carrizo was a fucking third choice at Lazio. Castellazzi was the last competent second GK we had.

As for Padelli, it was expected that he’d perform like this, and he’ll continue to do so.

to be fair, he had one really good save when there was 1 vs 1 opportunity for Napoli (where De Vrij touched the ball with his hand few seconds later).
