despite the fact i hate his guts, yes, i consider emerson to be a two-way midfielder and i believe it would be superior to zanetti-burdisso-stankovic

but that trio would be surpassed still by zanetti, emerson and stankovic simply because nico is not as versatile as zanetti

evidenced by the fact that we play with zanetti, cambiasso and vieira in midfield three, its plain to see that there are 1 spec. DM and 2 two-way midfielders

in fact this year, im hoping to see zanetti play a far greater offensive role because due to the upgrade in class down the left-flank, zanetti no longer needs to cover defensively (as often, or as hard) as he did last term

Good to see he finally came. Mercato is closed. I like the earlier comparison of Chivu-Grosso, Jiminez-Mariano, and Suazo-Recoba. I'm content, althought I would have liked to see an AMC, we are getting loaded, I agree. The 3 forward line can really compensate for Figo/Stankovic's shortcomings in being a WORLD CLASS AMC.

Definately must say that I like the fact that Mancio views him as a facilitator from defense to attack and that he's being played BOTH as a fullback and a centreback during the pre-season. Hopefully he proves to be a better CB than Samuel and Cordoba like I think he is.

Is it just me or does anyone think this signing came at too high a price? I mean a solid boat load of cash plus half the rights to Marco Andreolli is not chump change. Plus I have my reservations about spending so much on an already well covered position. If we are not looking to offload at least one of our CBs there is going to be chaos next season.

Materazzi, Burdisso, Chivu, Cordoba, Samuel, Rivas. Too many bodies for too few positions. I have a feeling people like Samuel and Cordoba are going to get the shaft big time.

Anyways he played pretty well against Arsenal and despite playing a bit risky in our own end he managed to own two Arsenal players; loved that.

I think we will loan out Rivas and I dont expect Cordoba to be competing at high level again this season. In addition, I think Chivu will be playing more at LB if Maxwell does not perform.

If Rivas is to stay, then he won't get any CL time, unless he gets registered and later taken away to register Burdisso in his place (which I don't believe in).

You should count rivas. He won't play a minutes football. At most coppa italia games. He basically replaces andreoli except that he can't play primareva games. Chivu replaces grosso but the likes of cordoba and sameul will really have to fight for there spots.

Welcome Cristian and I hope he plays well and stays injury-free. Does anyone know the exact details of the deal? If indeed he took a pay-cut in the overall amount to join us, then that is pleasing to hear.

Also, on paper, I think it should be Samuel - Chivu. They had a splendid parternship in Roma, and I think both have enough pace and height to complement each other. I can't say the same about Chivu - Materazzi.

Once Chivu was signed Rivas wasn't even called up for this tour. And he isn't injured like viera so it's quite clear he is probably going to get loaned .
