‘Inter, stop buying average players!’
By Football Italia staff

Christian Vieri has urged Inter to stop “buying average players”

Well looks like its the same shit this year too. Infact we'll probably sell Perisic and get a downgrade replacement.

I know a lot of people can't forgive him his Milan stint but for me he is the epitome of all things Inter, one of the first things that pop in my mind when I think of this club.

Also the very first football shirt I ever got. I can only imagine what could've been had we had Nesta back then.

That gesture alone shows how much Bobo wanted to win in this shirt. I don't hate him for moving at the end of his career there, as we didn't want to keep him anymore and he was at an age and place in his career where he didn't want to leave the city. Completely understandable. Any team in Serie A would be a major step down too.

Totally agree. Name me a player from current Inter with even half the passion Vieri had.

Didn't Vieri also sign for Atalanta or Fiorentina for the minimum monthly wage of 2000 euros or something with 100 000 bonuses per goal scored.
Imagine someone doing that in today's market, no matter what stage of their career they are.

So Ronaldo was willing to cut his salary but then asked for a transfer to Real Madrid. Convenient.

Also, Nesta's move to Milan was shady as fuck. Nesta didn't want to leave Lazio anyway, it's like Totti being forced out of Roma, you just cannot envisage it.

As for the timeline.
Inter signed Cannavaro on the 7th of August.
Inter signed Gamarra on the 18th of August.

Milan signed Nesta on the 31st of August.
After a little while, this happened:
31/08/2002 - 23:25
MILANO - L'attaccante argentino Hernan Crespo è dell'Inter. Si sta definendo in questi minuti il trasferimento di Ronaldo al Real Madrid. In breve tempo i dettagli e i commenti sull'operazione.

We signed Cannavaro exactly because Lazio would not sell Nesta to us. I guess they wanted the duo after all so that's why Gamarra is part of the discussion. We already had Materazzi and Cordoba who were quite good though.
And Adani was signed earlier as well for backup.

According to the UEFA website Carlos Gamarra had agreed to join us on 17th of May as he was a free agent. While Ronaldo, Vieri and Recoba offered to take a pay cut on the 13th of July.

I agree we only signed Cannavaro because we couldn't get Nesta who was our number one target. Also wasn't Cristiano Zanetti the main reason we couldn't get Nesta. Lazio wanted him as part of the deal but we said no.

Yes Cristiano Zanetti was one of the main reasons, he was Cuper's favorite in his ultra defensive 442.

Cant quite remember what happened to him at the end of his career with Inter, he kinda just faded away.

Nesta was always quite injury prone though, although Cannavaro was also equally injury prone while playing for us, we probably wouldn't have much luck with Nesta either as we were quite awful with dealing with injuries back then until Mazzarri brought his healing wizard to us and later on Mancini's mountain healer.

Yea I can't remember what happened but there surely was some shenanigans at that time. If I remember correctly, it had to do with Lazio's financial status, and also the fact that Galliani was the Lega Calcio president at that time. Nesta was very closely linked with Inter after the season ends but somehow ended up in Milan instead. Very unfortunate.

Nesta is probably my favorite defender of all time, and Milan stealing him from right under our noses was, for me, the biggest transfer debacle/incident during my stint as an Interista.

Yup, conflict of interest and behind the scenes bullshit is what happened. He was for all intent and purposes a done deal.

It sad to see how inter treated him so dirty even after all his contribution for this club. He deserved play for inter forever more than Choutos or Suazo. For some reason some interisti want Icardi to be Vieri 2.0. Maybe next 10 year those ungrateful people more happy to see Eder or Zarate playing for Inter forever instead.

Haha can't stop laughing. Hilarious if true. Gamarra was a damn fine player for the NT i remember. Had a great Copa around that time (2000?) I love me some Bobo though. LGI.

He is more close to BBilan.

That's because unlike Milan we didn't try to fix the relationship with him. If Inter was a player it would be Bobo. The guy was a freak
