Okay, I didn't even know that. I've just read that it was a cardiac arrest, but didn't know cardiac arrest is NOT heart stop. The doctor indeed said there was a pulse when they arrived the scene and then suddenly it wasn't there anymore. And he said they brought him back from "death". There might be lost of translation shit all over the place though.

Many people have corrected me on this in the last few days. Eriksen's heart never stopped beating, he lost his pulse i.e. the heart was beating out of rhythm so it wasnt able to pump blood. Defilbrators arent not designed to restart a flatlined heart, they shock the heart back to rhythm.

I don't know what this means for Eriksen's cardiac health, just provide some info.

this is not very accurate either.

If there is no pulse and no breathing, it is cardiac arrest until proven otherwise. Cardiac arrest means the heart stops functioning (whether it is completely flat line or muffled (fibrillations)) hence CPR was started because both are not compatible with life. The heart beating out of rhythm (arrhythmias) may be the underlying cause and be picked up with the defibrillators. Bare in minds, there are many types of arrhythmias. When there is arrhythmias in cardiac arrest, it means there is electricity in the heart, so we shock it trying to revert it. When there is none, it is pointless to use defibrillators because there is no electric current in the heart anyway.

But does the fact that the doctors indeed shock him with a defibrillator mean that his heart was still somewhat beating? Otherwise, the defi wouldn't have picked up anything and there wouldnt be any point for a shock?

Btw, Danish players are coming out saying they didnt request to play the game right after the incident, it was only the less worse option out of what were offered  good job UEFA.

Yeah they got two options. To play the match immediately or to play it next day at 12. They chose the first option as they wouldnt have had any sleep at all and their hotel is located almost an hour away in Helsingør. Also the time 12 was the choice because it couldnt interefere with the other matches that day probably do to revenue from TV, sponsors ect.

The match could have been postponed with 48 hours if it was due to coronavirus according to UEFA rules. The conclusion is that coronavirus is more severe than a cardiac arrest happening in a match!

Fuck UEFA.

After watching what happened these are the things I hope for in order of prio:

1. Eriksen being healthy and happy together with his family
2. Eriksen being in the stadium cheering on his Danish team mates during the european championship and being hailed the legend he is
3. Eriksen being in the stadium during an Inter game being hailed the legend he is by us Inter fans
4. Eriksen playing again if it's completely healthy to do so

God, I was really afraid he died there. As a father of two myself, it really hurt me. Football is serious business, until something like this happens, then it becomes something unimportant.
If he plays again, he will be cheered on like never before. If not, he will retire as an absolute legend.

Forza Eriksen!

Shocked to hear the news and my eyes got in tears seeing the footage. Thank God, the staff and quick reactions he`s alive!

God dammit that was awful. I never wanna see something like that again. Godspeed Christian
Read some stats that every 1 in 5 adult lives to see something like this during a lifetime... we should all train to know how to do CPR, not just superficially pass some exams for work. This skill can literally save lives!

Then of course also the fact that the hospital is located almost next door to the stadium. Honestly I am happy that this at least happened at a big match on home soil close to hospital and professionals and not somewhere else like a training pitch in the middle of the Alps ect. far away from a team of professional medics. Christian got the right treatment from the first second which have a huge importance in terms of the longer term. The way Simon Kjær acted in the situation was truly fascinating as well with Kasper Schmeichel who did his very best to calm everyone down afterwards including Eriksens wife on the sideline.

Can`t help but think living in such developed countries where the state-owned facilitaies function as expected, increase the chances of survival. Feels that Christian was lucky to suffer this kind of incident there, with everyone prepared. It also shows intelligence to have the stadium so close to the hospital. My deepest respect to the Danish people.

According to Jesper Kjærsgaard, there are examples among top athletes who out of the blue can get blood clots in the heart or who have heart rhythm diseases.

- They are difficult to see, but can be triggered by hard physical exertion, he says.

If it is a blood clot in the heart, it will typically be accompanied by chest pain and other discomfort. But if it is a arrhythmia, there are no warning signs and the person becomes unconscious immediately, he says."
Thank you for sharing this, hopefully Christian will make a full recovery.

Some jerks said it was because of a Corona vaccination - although Eriksen isn't vaccinated yet. God, there are such idiots in the world.
In their defence, there were circulating news around internet stating Eriksen has been vaccinated with "Pfizer on the 31st of May", citing our club`s medic Piero Volpi, in an alleged interview to Radio Sportiva, reported by Yahoo and other portals.
It turned out to be fake news! Ths is not true: Eriksen has not received the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine or any other. Marotta clearly confirmed that Eriksen did not have COVID and was not vaccinated.

TSjnY2Jr

There is an interview with Dr. Volpi dated May 18 saying “In the next championship the players will continue to be monitored. But at the start everyone will be vaccinated.” Link in Italian: https://www.calciomercato.com/news/inter-il-medico-volpi-pochi-infortuni-e-5000-tamponi-cosi-nasce--19029

So it seems conspiracy theorists have used this as propaganda against the vaccine :wallbang2:

E31OMStXoAEHOjh

Today’s front Gazzetta dello sport front page reports Eriksen quotes to his agent:
“Thanks to everyone, I’m not giving up. I’m fine now but I want to understand what happened. The support from the Inter world was emotional for me”
:proud:

Fuck UEFA.

Actually they had 3 choices. The news roll here in Denmark is today highlighting that:
1. play the match immediately.
2. play the match at 12 next day.
3. loose the match 3 - 0.

Personally I think the best solution would have been to end the match with the current score 0 - 0.

Not good decision making by UEFA there IMHO.

I have the pzifer vaccine. My shoulder still hurts like 2 months later randomly….

It caused 6-7 strokes of women younger than 45 when they had their periods. After that nothing.

Honestly I’m the same age as Eriksen so pretty scary. Defiantly not in the same income bracket.

Guy can comfortably retire already and his kids will still be set for life. Honestly not worth it. Again not the same thing but I worked at a hedge fund making almost 50% more than now. I also had an ulcer by 25. Money only takes you so far. Your health and family are way more important.

First I hope he makes it. Then decides what’s best for him and his family. At this point he doesn’t really owe the club or his country anything. He done the most he could do for both.

I'm still flustered by the sheer randomness of this incident. Literally came out of nowhere. And the fact that, against all odds, the worst could be avoided seems like an alternate reality.

It's rather common for men to develop heart issues at this age (late 20s to mid 30s) unfortunately. It can just happen randomly and I'm not sure on the science behind it, if there's anything hereditary involved etc.
Don't forget Davide Astori who passed away from an out of the blue heart issue at age 31.

That's reassuring to hear less than 4 weeks before my 31st birthday.

Cheers, mate.

Didn't word it properly, it's a rare thing, but let's say it's an uncommon issue that you may hear about because of its rarity, but we're talking 1 in 200 rare, not win the lottery rare.

Yeah you can see one of the main buildings in the background with the helicopter landing spot on the roof :)

People have been invited to come to Ofelia Square in Copenhagen and paint a message to Eriksen. The amount of love he receives is absolutely amazing.

Obviously I can't be objective but I try.

- UEFA couldn't move the match further than Sunday, because Finland has a game in St. Petersburg on Wednesday. If the game was played on Monday, there would have been only one game day between the matches and they had to travel there too (they traveled there on Sunday evening). So it would have been a clear advantage to Russia and disadvantage to Finland.
- current score of 0-0 would have been unfair to other teams in the group, as both teams would have got 1p (every point is super important in this format where top4 of group 3rd best teams qualifies). I also seriously doubt the Denmark team would have ever picked the 0-0. Finland team would have obviously picked it (but it wasn't their call as they agreed to go whatever the Danes would decide).
- the two options were given, the 3rd one is a default one which was most probably not presented as an option by UEFA, as it comes from the rules that if you don't play the game, it's forfeit and 0-3 automatically. So it's the 3rd option but it comes straight from the rules of the game.

I blasted UEFA also for this thing but after educating myself I bit on the subject, there was really no choice. I understand Danes are upset and pissed how it all ended up.

I don't know if you're implying that we (Danes) would be okay with it had Denmark won the match, but if so, that couldn't be further from the truth.

Right now in Denmark hardly anybody cares about the Euro's, or football. We witnessed a beloved player collapse on the field during what was the most anticipated football match on Danish soil in modern history.

The dissatisfaction with UEFA's actions stems not from a sporting point of view. At all. The players should never have been forced to make such a non-choice. I was crying and shaking from home watching the game on a screen. How do you think the players felt? You think they felt mentally capable to play a match directly thereafter, let alone make a decision about it?

UEFA is a travesty, not only for subjecting the players to this, but also for subjecting people around the globe to horrific images of a young man's close encounter with death. They should not have let those images out on the master feed.

(I meant Danes as Schmeichel and such who complains about this publicly)

Yeah I completely agree with you, like 100% all what you said (like wtf, sending these images all over the world while at the same time they cut the feed in 2 seconds whenever a pitch invasion happens)

Yet again, UEFA needs to continue the tournament. What should they have done? Match schedule is tight, specially given this idiotic system of having to travel between the countries (thanks Platini you fucking idiot). It went probably that UEFA had to make a decision and they told the options to Danish (and Finnish) FAs and FAs wanted to get the opinion of both teams. Of course it sounds terrible that they give this task to decide to the team(s), but I think it might have been ever worse if they (FAs or UEFA) forced the match to be played in that night or on Sunday).

Like I explained earlier, postponing the match further was not an option. IF Eriksen ended up at worse condition, situation would have been different and the match would have been probably cancelled altogether and the whole tournament could have been in jeopardy for real.

If Eriksen got a positive coronavirus test, then the match could have been postponed for up to 48 hours according to UEFAs rules.

If Eriksen is hit by a cardiac arrest in the middle of the match, in which he is actually dead for a time period, then the match can be postponed for maximum 16 hours.

Does it make any sense? A positive corona test is with UEFA logic 3 times more severe.

I agree with Jacquez. The Euro championship is not important anymore for Denmark and this is not a discussion about the result but the stupidity in the two choices they gave. Forcing someone who just saw their teammate and friend being dead, to take such a decision is just wrong. UEFA doesn't give a shit about the well being of the players as it is just about money.
