According to both Sky sport and Gazzetta, this will be our line-up:

(3-4-2-1): Handanovic; D'Ambrosio, de Vrij, Skriniar; Vrsaljko, Brozovic, Vecino, Asamoah; Nainggolan, Perisic; Icardi.

I don’t like back-3 that much but we shouldn’t look purely on the formation and conclude the same outcome.
- Conte ruled Serie A and PL with 3-4-2-1
- The highest point Roma in history played 3-4-2-1 too, and it was Spallo.

Roma looked clueless yesterday because they played with 8 defensive players, duo DM DeRossi Nzonzi. It was like fielding both Medel Melo and wondered why the gameplay was shit (Mancio). Not because of the 3-4-2-1 formation.

That might be the reason why Spallo avoids using Gags. He is a DM. There is no need to overload more defensive capability when we already put 1 more defender to the field. Spallo is a smart coach and he is figuring out how to be balance.

Remember how Spallo torn apart us with freaking Juan Jesus and Bruno Peres as WBs and Radja- Perotti as AMC. He is trying the same here with better players (bar Vecino). It makes some sense, especially with the return of his core player Radja.

When Brozovic Gagliardini played together Gagliardini wasn't really playing as a DM. He actually was able to play a lot higher up the pitch compared to the first half last season. Also it's not as if Vecino offers more defensively. I'd actually say Gagliardini is better at getting in goof positions. He needs to work on finishing but I still trust him more closer the he the opponent's gosl than Vecino. Also Gagliardini will win more balls, more headers in midfield etc. Vecino runs a lot and gives you the illusion of doing a lot but he really doesn't. He also has a terrible first touch. Gagliardini isn't a great passer but he does have the ability to give some nice long passes like Candreva's gal against Milan.

Like someone some, ideally Gagliardini would be a back up to a better player bit still get decent minutes like how it should be at a big club. Right now he's a backup to a worse player who's on top of it, older than him so it's not as if there's a chance for Vecino to improve or grow.

Back 4 at least and Gags is in.

Why dafuq Dumbo is playing instead of Vrsaljko and Keita instead of Lautaro I’ll never understand

I'm hearing it's 3-4-2-1 with Politano as a RWB; surely not?

Is that a typo? I didn't say Vecino offers more defensively :chan:

Well..I get the hate on Vecino, I hate him too after two disastrous performances. But you can't say "Gags offers more than him in attack". Vecino got 6 goals/assists last year, Gags had none. The latter was clearly a DM with long pass ability, that's all.

If we field Handa, 5 defenders and Gags, it's an overwhelming in defense and only 4 more attackers. One of the four offers almost nothing if there is no service (Icardi). It's the same situation as Roma last night. If we operate 3-something, none of them should be there, but Spallo doesn't have any other choice. He has to choose the one with slightly better attack, despite much worse in defense.

Is icardi injured? Would have rather seen d’ambrosio on the bench, but other than that... that’s a decent looking lineup.
