Given the circumstances, he is doing an excellent job.
Hopefully, we will have open stadiums, to let that sweet ticket money in + hopefully we'll get past group stage in CL to let that sweet uefa money in.

Nah, he's doing an easy job.

He was supposed to have sleepless nights trying offload Mario, 9G, etc..., or finding a solution to Nandez and all that while keeping our book under control.

Instead, selling Hakimi and Lukaku gave him an easy way out. He could terminate 9G without a blink and scrap that improvised complicated Nandez deal altogether. Maybe he did well to sell Lukaku for 115m, but it's hard to say how much of it was due to his negotiation skills and how much was Chelsea being Chelsea.

That being said, Marotta's work must not be judged right after it's done. He's never a great scout or salesman to be judged this way. Instead, he always manages to demonstrate his ability to build a cohesive, balanced squad with strong attention to finances (covid excused). It's not coincident that juve's squad keeps getting more and more imbalanced after he left, too many good players competing for a same space while other areas were neglected. Or Ausillio always managed to find some gems, yet our team never manage to strike a balance until he came.

So maybe give it a year, we will see if he's indeed done a good job. Hopefully, the loss in individual qualities will be offset by having better synergy between the players, especially when Inzaghi never puts extreme emphasis on counter attack with long balls and speed.

Just to add to what you're saying, for all his merits (and I am a big supporter of Marotta and I personally feel he has done a very good job), but he has a track record throughout his career of offloading players for far below their market value. At Juventus he offloaded Melo, Tiago, Toni, Immobile, Gabbiadini, Quagliarella, Giovinco, Tevez, and Berardi for a total of roughly 45 million (according to transfermarkt).

Don't know about the others but I as far as remember Berardi had a buy back clause or something that never been triggered. Which means that the deal wasn't bad, as Jube had had an option to get him later but they haven't exercised it.

They did exercise it.
Berardi refused it.

in fairness they also pay more in wages in a month than our signings cost in fees (Maybe. Maybe not quite.)

My point exactly. Its silly to compare in such a selective & limited way.

Inter's mercato this summer has been pretty poor overall. Perhaps this is not Marotta's fault, but lets not try and sugar coat this shitfest.

I mean, considernig the constraints, I think we could do a lot worse than those 3 players for a total of 14mil euros ?

the big question is the next signing. Correa will disappoint me. I dont mind Zapata.

Ignoring the transfer fees / resale value my order would be the following:

Zapata > Thuram > Correa

Zapata is the safest option whereas Thuram as the biggest upside imho. Correa is too similar to Lautaro, so in a perfect world we would be him as Lautaro's sub which will not happen because of obvious reasons.

I mean it's nice and all and if Dimarco works out at LWB our squad will be the most completed it has been in the last decade or so.
But everything will look impressive if the benchmarks are set against Arsenal

Marotta before the Genoa game:

translated from https://twitter.com/InterCM16

“We have the tricolor cockade on our chest and we must honor it. There are 7 teams candidates to win the Scudetto but we will be ambitious. "

"Inzaghi impressed us. He is a serious professional. It's the best profile for us. "

“There have been some major defections. It all started with a clear will of Lukaku. Then having said that, I do not deny that his sale has guaranteed us the financial security of the club in a complicated moment. "

“As Michael Jordan said: Talent makes you win a game, the work of a team makes you win the championship. "

"Lautaro, he is one of those players who wanted to stay with us even by refusing important offers. He said he is happy with Inter. We are proud of this. He wants to prove he is a champion. "

“We are looking for a striker with our financial resources. We will make the best choice. I'm optimistic, I reassure our fans: we will be able to give satisfaction. "

I really like how we dealed with financial difficulties. Dumfries for Hakimi is great, as both are very fast and can couse problems with that.
Calhanoglu for Eriksen is a great deal too and i can live with Dzeko and Thuram instead of Lukaku.

The real Deal was Inzaghi for Conte as he is much more variable.

If everything goes well, we can consider Sensi and dimarco as transfers too.

I honestly dont see us much weaker this season.

I'll believe that we get an attacking player that can bring pace - like Lukaku did. This is missing right now.
