Initially it was a rumour (early-mid December) and then he sort of informed some of the players' agents to start looking for new clubs during the winter break (early January), while he said to others the business way of "you're fucked" by saying the key words 'we will evaluate the situation in the summer'. Essentially the only 100% safe ones were Icardi, Handanovic, Skriniar, de Vrij, Lautaro and Brozovic, while Politano was informed that the club wants to redeem him. And that list included Spalletti. So you can see how easy it was to destroy whatever morale was left and the locker room. The situation seems worse than the Pioli era where the team pretty much fucked the season up to avoid the EL qualifiers. This team has nothing to play for and they're not a united bunch anymore. It's all up to Spalletti to create a unit out of these guys but he seems incapable.
