FIF member Gal is permanently banned from FIF for using the same IP as FIF member Besnik. FIF member Besnik is getting one month ban to reconsider his actions.
Very surprising. Their style didn't seem remotely close.

Could be same in same household, a couple, mates, sharing flat or same person, who knows but that discussion is not good.

I don't understand anything about that stuff, but is it possible if he uses VPN in some weird occasion to show same address as Besnik?

It's possible but so extremely unlikely that the IP could be from the same VPN provider. vPNs generally have thousands or more unique IPs so even within one provider you'd be so unlikely to have the same IP as someone else. It'd be interesting to know, and I'm sure the mods do, if it was a one off or if it's for a sustained period of time. That'd be the most important signal

There’s no fucking way Besnik and Gal are the same person!

I’m not saying that it’s unlikely, I’m saying there’s no fucking way.
It is possible if he has some dual personally.

I've already seen at least one instance - pg. 211 of the Serie A thread - where Gal has a post and Besnik has a lengthy post both published literally one minute apart. I get it, anybody can type out multiple posts on two different browsers logged into different accounts and then publish them almost simultaneously, but this seems extremely bizarre to me. Like, Besnik has been on FIF for 15 years, he's written almost 20,000 posts here, obviously he has a reputation here...I'm not questioning the research of the mods, but this feels like 2 + 2 = 5.

How did you realize they were one minute apart?

First off, my bad, it was pg. 210, not 211.

Put your cursor over the date at the very top of each post. I'm not gonna do screenshots (and I'm going to use my local time), but the Gal post says "Mar 10, 2024, at 8:01 PM", the Besnik post directly after it says "8:02 PM".

...you know, 8:01pm my time would be mid-morning in Europe (2:00am whether in Denmark or Albania), so maybe that's questionable now that I think about it? Not to say being a night owl is a crime but I also imagine, most of the time, we're asleep at that time no matter where in the world we are. Of course, there could still be any number of plausible explanatory factors at play here. I still find the posting styles so divergent as to find this an impossible match personally, but that's with zero research done on my part.

A bit background story and an update on this. System showed a warning about shared IPs between the two users. I checked it and there were many occasions where those two members shared same IP. I was always under the impression IPs were unique and i didn't know it was possible for two diffferent persons to have same IP. I take the sole responsibility for this inconvenience. After consulting with the rest of moderating team we have decided to reinstate @Gal and @Besnik accounts. My apologies to the members for the misunderstanding.

2am late…. Well there some who do night shift…. just saying

Well, as I said, that wasn't proof of any kind of crime, but it did strike me as somewhat unusual on its own. I've also made posts on this forum at 2am local time before on nights when I can't fall asleep or whatever.

This is wild, but reading it on the sidelines was actually a bit funny, as others correctly guessed no we are not the same person or even living in the same country. I actually feel bad such an old user had to be banned because we happened for some reason to get same IP. However IP is dynamic and mine changes frequently. There been recent talk about this especially in regard to IP4 where they ran out of enough addresses so this has actually become a more frequent problem, why IP6 is likely going to eventually replace it. There can be multiple explanations why this happened.

Also with VP and apples newest Icloud service this is potentially going to make it even more frequent issue.

To be *completely* honest, this doesnt really pass the sniff test.

IPv4 blocks are bought in bulk by, say, ISPs and websites for example. There's not really any circumstance - short of a virtual network - where two people in different countries would resolve to the same IP address, and even if so, that'd only be temporarily rather than consistently. What you generally see with IPv4 addresses now is that, e.g., an IP address will resolve to a block of flats or a single exchange. But not even in the same country I dont really, really buy to be honest.

Even if it was same IP at different times - that's kinda unlikely but not impossibly so. Consistently on the same IP addresses at differing times is, well, unlikely to the point of basically impossible unless you're using a common light VPN service for example
