On a side note, I can tell you that this will be Atletico Madrid's toughest and most suffering encounter in the CL this year even if they get knocked out. They'll never forget it.

I was checking out Atleti subreddit and lots of comments say how this was the best game they played in a long while, specifically naming a good amount of players who performed above their usual mediocre standard.
People who don't watch their games might think this was a regular Wednesday night for them but it really was not.

3 losses all season, and 2 of them have knocked the team out of the cup competitions. Such a strange season.
Atletico was the strongest team we played this season. Against Bologna we played many benchers. Nothing strange there. For me the strangest thing is our fantastic run in Seria A.

People should really internalize this. Atletico is not a bad team. They had a meh first game, and we had a meh second game. Both Atletico and Inter are probably a top10 team in Europe right now.

Here is to hoping we can still be top10 the next few seasons. Shame the CL format has changed

With the new format it’s going to harm Italian football to in a unprecedented way… Italian football is broke and the new format heavily benefits the wealthiest clubs… It’s going to be years before we see any Italian team in a semifinal.

This team has no future we all know this to be true, as there no young players most are plus 26 years now with huge chunk over 30. We only have a team for the now, the future look incredible dim as we don’t have a bend euro to invest and replace the players that are peaking now, realities is we need to Sell Martinez and for the next young player, don’t and they loose to much value meaning we get far less potential.

The idea we can keep our players is idiotic it’s time to cash in while we still can.

In the same stadium.

We were eliminated on away goals for two games played in the same fucking stadium in Milan.

Man don't remind me. I was the one who had to go to school the next morning and get humiliated by both Milanisti and gobbi. For me it's in the same league with May 5th.

Wait till PIF buys beelan soon and return them to Berlusconi era level.

They will only do well in serie A, we already seen how piss such team performs in CL if they don’t play in a competitive league and even that isn’t a guarantee.

Just look at PSG the laughing stock of Europe.

Or Newcastle that has tons of money but are a joke of a team it also takes competence something these sports washing teams often don’t have

Eventually the novelty wears off, chelsea had their dominance but are now turned into a midtable team, city likely goes the same way eventually when their owners finds a new toy to play with.

I can't tell if it's bad luck, missing chances, or what... just can't take this... sorry. Definitely will remember this day for a long time.

We play against a team that has money, it’s not a catastrophe, they can sub in players we can only dream of owning let’s not forget they have been massively underperforming the entire season, much like we did last season. Those subs were the difference makers and just barely.

Without quality subs it’s going to cost you eventually especially once you meet better teams, I said all season we would never get far in CL due to this reality, time people return back to earth.

A scudetto was always as good as it was ever going to get and we were never realistically going much further than the quarter finals.

Cl final was never a true picture of our quality we had an easy ride to that final, any other route and we would have been kicked out much earlier. We had nothing to do in that final that’s really the truth of it, but pure dumb luck and that we grasped the luck got us there. We are a top ten team, but only just. That also means you end your season in 1/8 and 1/4 most times.

i generally agree with your post Gal, but, I think talking about subs is a bit of a misleading convo. We're only talking about subs because our starters massively underperformed. Lautaro failing to score, mistakes from Thuram, etc, these arent a question of quality of subs, its a question of quality of the starters? This is the first time we've conceeded a goal all season between 75-90 mins, so I really honestly dont think 'subs' is the way to go

You need quality subs because you otherwise will overuse your starters, also you need them
When starters aren’t delivering or plan A does not work, which happens for every team doing a long season. We are overly reliant on our starters, so we overuse them, result is you run them dry and they stop performing because they are to tired or battling with minor issues, there limits how hard you can push players. We are not resting our starters enough to be able to participate in two tournaments.

Several didn’t perform not just yesterday but also preceding games largely because we have overplayed them for far too long. Just like last year we have been overly reliant on Martinez, that makes us vulnerable, also Martinez was actually among one of our better, he was just tactically taken out of the game the moment he got near the last 1/3 of their part as he was heavily man marked the entire game often with 3-4 players.

He was not the problem our tactics and lack of form was, also Hakan and Thuram just returned the consequence is they were not where they needed to be. Miki looked like a zombie most of the match go figure why, at the mount he has been played at his age it was bound to have consequences sooner rather than later.

It's useless to say that we could have not beaten City or Madrid.
Make it to the semis is way better for 3 reasons:
1-European pedigree
2-Money (millions)
3-UEFA coeficient score for both Serie A and for Inter.

The most annoying thing is that this Atletico team really isn’t elite. Sure they have a great home record but they lost to Athletic in both legs just a few weeks ago. They really aren’t great defensively and struggle building out of the back.

How many times did they pass the ball to us in a dangerous position across both legs? If Mkhi just passed the ball to someone in an Inter shirt we could have created many more dangerous situations.

Not trying to pick on him but this is where we see our limitations. A team with a bit more money has another Barella in midfield, not an overly exhausted and overplayed 35 year old. He was a weak link in the chain today. And it’s not the first time.
Mkhitaryan reminded me of Dzeko in first season of Inzaghi here. He is playing so many minutes and is looking worse and worse now. No wonder he is sub par this days. We need more quality/depth,simply as that. Even Calhanoglu playing as a mezzala would be great option to have but hey,so many was satisfied and celebrated when we got rid of Brozović like that was something good and we don't need him at all. We need serious depth for clashes like this.

Yep. Koke especially. They are saying he was having his best game in years.

I'm interested beating Juve's 102 points.
Naah. More than that I'm interested in Bisseck getting his starting spot. In the middle or whatever. Try things,he is the future. We need him to replace Acerbi/De vrij if possible. Also In Buchanan getting more and more minutes. Asllani getting as many as he can handle. Let's see what we have here. Of course, all of this could be probably possible only in few weeks if we can continue this fantastic Serie A run and then can afford to do something like this. But I'm afraid will that even happen in that scenario or our veterans will play till the end for the records and similar things less worth in a long run.

You do know we can only buy if we sell, if not it means we have to get bosman of 30 year olds with no resale values or cheap players that likely won’t make it and those won’t give a large enough profit.

If we don’t sell our most valuable asset we won’t have cash to invest in quality that is needed. If we wait those assets loose value simply because of age and because they are unlikely to perform at any higher level then they currently are. If you let them stay and let them loose market value, you won’t ever be able to get anything of note eventually you lock yourself into only getting sub 10m players and 30 old bosman because you have no valuable assets you can sell to reinvest.

No one is going to take us out of Zhang hands, Italian football has no appeal to investors at large. The sponsors just means we won’t run as much in red as we currently are. At beat it will be questionable owners who might be no better than what we currently have.

No sugar daddy is coming and save us. We are those a feeder club and those have to sell our best players to keep the boat afloat.

If we have any rational sense we offload Martinez at first given chance.

You can do both. Give Bisseck, Frattesi, Buchanan, Augusto, Asllani more playing minutes and still maintain the winning record.
