Maybe one day we'll manage to have 2 center backs performing at a decent level at the same time.

Ranocchia was bossing in general but needs to improve decision making. Quite a few times, he went out too far ahead trying to take the ball from the opposition player and left the defence very open and susceptible.

Currently Rano is the only Defender that deserves a Starting place .. "Samuel , Chivu , Juan and Silvestre" will have to fight for the Second position ..

atm he is the LCB, while Silvestre the RCB in the team.

So, i was arguing with a friend now, according to him, he has stated in an interview that he played bad because he was playing on the right, while he prefers playing on the left. This is the first time i hear this and tbh, it doesn't sound right since he is right footed anyway.

Anyone knows something of this, link, or whatever?

That'd be a problem, considering Samuel plays best on the left.

Doesn't make sense at all. He can be only better with moving on the right, his cordination can only grow.

He played bad because he came in new club with huge expectations, big injury behind him, had three new coaches and he probablly didn't know where is left and right in his head, considering circumstances.

Might be the reason, not all the CBs adapt to switching positions.

So if this is true then you have 2 CBs who can play best as RCB or can Silvestre play as LCB? (watching game against Roma, he can't play as CB at all :p )

This was the best I have seen of Rano. He was a beast in the air, not a single aerial ball eluded him. His tackling was inch-perfect and I think he is slowly getting good chemistry with Silvestre. I can't wait to see more of him, finally he is showing what he is capable of!

He did very well so far, so let's hope he doesn't pick up any injury though

Who cares, better for us. Why risk an injury just when he showed promise and starter the season great? His time will come, im sure of that, now i just hope he continues like this.

it sounds legit to me.

CBs rarely ever swap positions - look at United, Chelsea, etc. They always line up the same way.

Ranocchia does prefer playing on the left, that is true...

If you think about it, it makes sense. On the LCB, you have to watch for players coming inside from your front-left area, and anyone drifting wide from front-right is (almost) going to be the fullbacks responsibility. When you flip, that changes entirely. You have to be focused in the opposite area to which you are used to, the tackling and everything is much different.

If someone is coming in from the inside left, for example, its easy to slide with your right foot and take the ball off him. If someone is coming in from the inside-right, it 'should' be a left-footed tackle in an ideal world. Of course that doesn't mean it won't work, but that would be optimal imho.
