I want to see him work on his actual defending. He’s prone to a fuck up or getting caught of position every now and then. I’m being overly critical but we already know how effective he is in contributing to the attack.

What that statistic tells is that Bastoni never fucked up a dribble or misplaced a pass that made us concede. This has nothing to do with his tackling or losing a man in the box - which is your point, since that is the main thing defenders do.
Skriniar goes to PSG and all of a sudden he wasn't our best defender of his time here anymore. SMH, get real

And to be clear, I do feel that Bastoni is a special player in his position, while Skriniar is "just" a tough CB with grinta.
But let's not be angry at players - just because Skriniar left because he didn't feel valued enough (you can blame the management, same happened with Perišić) and we are a club that is constantly on financial edge, I can't really blame him - why commit to a club that does that? The management owes us a Scudetto just for paying Lukaku too much last season.
If you got attached to Skriniar because he was a sweet talker, newsflash, all football players (unless if your name is Osvaldo) are sweet talkers. C'mon now.
