Actually the opposite is true, youre the ones comparing him to Icardi, Haaland, Bobo, Aguero, etc. And ibra was the quintessential #10 / support striker. I think he did +20 goals x2 in a top league. But personally I never viewed him as a #9 with clinical finishing.
Never. He might win capocannoniere given the rate we're losing top players to EPL / Bayern / La Liga. But clinical, no.
He's 22-23, first season at a new club. Meanwhile he broke all scoring records including a goal a game in UCL. Remind me how many goals Toro scored in UCL last season?
Your not really getting the point, your not getting a better finisher then Martinez or one who almost guaranteed deliver 20ish goals a season in serie A. No matter how you look at it, that is top attacker numbers… There not many who deliver that on a consistent basis in a top 4 league, especially not at 23-25 years of age. Those that dos and is capable are all 70m euros in price and upwards, way like way out of our financial reach.
We are never going to get a better player, it’s naive to think otherwise, because we do not have the financial strength to do so. It’s utterly irrelevant if his a natural 9, 10 whatever type he is still capable of delivering the numbers of prime attacker.
No he is no Haaland, Messi or Ronaldo but really how many are and less can also do it! Those are also incredible rare and most teams will never have the chance for such a player. Even among top teams it’s a rare occurrence, we had Ronaldo and we been no where near it ever since, the closest in talent was Adriano, we all know how that went and then we had Zlatan but it would be a stretch calling them Ronaldo capable. And most of these will still go through drought where they don’t score.
Icardi and Vieri was both clinical finisher, but it was a rather limited package and neither are all that desirable in 2023 simply because of requirements on attackers today.
