Come on - you guys act like every team needs an A+ player starting and on the bench as a sub. Gagliardini and Vecino are totally acceptable bench and alternate midfield players. We should start Brozo, Sensi and Barella and maybe bring in a veteran midfielder as injury cover (swapping out for valero who i don't even rate as a bench player anymore).

We definitely need A+ player starting who's not a midget. We can't run the season with two midgets as preferred starters. Now it's Brozo + either midget(s) or one-legged (Gags, Vecino, Valero). It simply can't be like that.

Fair enough. but i think with the addition of a veteran midfielder, we should be fine. Obviously would love to get SMS but I just don't see that happening. Frankly it is a pipe dream.

Why not?

One legged players, the first two costed us 25mil each. We are not paying them to do nothing.

If we can swap them out, only then maybe it’s ok.

Wonder if anyone said that about Xavi and Iniesta when they demolished the entire fotball world:rollani:

Sure, but

- Barella and Sensi are not at Xavi/Iniesta level at all
- we don't play that type of football which mitigates the size of the players
- we don't play in a league where playing short players in the midfield is a wise strategy long-term

It's about heart, not size. Cordoba proved that!

I know their not even close to that level or in same stratosphere but its kinda dumb to say cause of size alone. Iniesta and Xavi destotroyed everything both on international level and club lvl, somehow I dont think they would struggle playing long term in serie A.

Big and dumb doesnt matter if you dont have skills, it all bottle down to the skillset and talent thats about it, thats just as a ignorent argument just mehhh

Part of Xavi's and Iniesta's brilliance was the La Masia background and how the whole Barcelona team was about that La Masia football. Same goes for Spanish NT.

This argument taken to this Barella-Sensi discussion is just absurd. You shouldn't read my arguments without context which in this case is that Barella and Sensi are not world class short-sized players playing in a defined playing style for years. They are good short-sized players who came in to a team who just changed their coach and revamped their playing style totally starting from the formation.

i would never stoop so low...the fact is those coaches like their taller players. Mou mentioned it after the United game where we got eliminated and went out and got lucio for defense and Milito for midfield. Size matters ;)

Looks like we are waiting till the last day of mercato to solve Icardi issue. I fear that there will be no time to strengthen midfield

Depends! If our target is Vidal, there is nothing to do with Icardi. Loan plus option would be enough. But if we want to cash Icardi in and after that to go after SMS, seems impossible. There will be no time, unless Marotta laid the ground for the transfer, but the problem is Lazio has no time to find a replacement. I don't think SMS is plausible this mercato.

It may be fine if the objective is a top 4 finish. If we want to dream any bigger, then SMS or at least Vidal are needed. Sensi and specially Barella are young and new to this level. They will have their share of bad patches.

After dispatching J. Mario to Siberia we can rest assured Marotta is after another midfielder. Probably Vidal on loan.

I hear Tottenham is willing to take whatever bid is necessary to sell Eriksen this summer, even 40m could do it. Perhaps he is our last minute option.
