Really? Source? (please not goal.com or sites like that)
I think that if that really happened Ausilio should be fired only for not accepting this.

Anyone misses this guy? :(
He is exactly the AMC we lack in recent games. Screamer, genius pass to unlock the defense, free-kick, corner-kick...

We sold him for freaking 7m. I don't blame Sabatini though, I blame FFP, the biggest bullshit in football history.

Theoretically yes, we need an AM and that is what Banega is. But I suspect he is not the kind of player Spalletti has in mind. I suspect the decision to sell him was taken with the coach, who wanted someone like Nainggolan instead.

We need to find Spalletti his kind of AM/B2B. If you want him to cook the meal, you gotta let him shop for the groceries.

Banega was shit. He had the odd good game here and there but overall was a dissapointment. Lets stop trying to pretend he wohkd be our 'saviour' this season.

Spalletti has never played with a player who has similar characteristics to Banega. The only even mildly comparable players are Strootman (who is far superior defensively) and Valero (who clearly is more comfortable playing deeper). So going to choose to trust Spalletti on this one.

Also, we needed that 9 million capital gain for FFP.

Haven't we spent most of Banega's 9m FFP capital gain on Valero? If so, then all what we've done is trading Banega with Valero (indirectly).

Not sure about this one. Banega obviously started his career, and earned much of his early reputation playing as a ball-playing DM. Even though he 'revived' his career playing AM at Sevilla, he's looks no worse playing as a CM/DM for Argentina IMO. He displays the same level of ball-retention and ability to keep possession as Valero, but he will contribute far more to the offense IMO.

It’s FIF... Didn’t you see people mentioning Kondogbia every now and then? I was against his transfer though (Banega), but I dont think he is the one we are missing right now.

Just realized that according to transfermarkt, Banega's sale to Sevilla was 7m and not 9m. Don't know how true is that, but I don't think that such little income is worth losing a player with Banega's characteristics. I think both Sabatini and Spalletti have made a significant mistake on this.

People call Banega inconsistent and I agree, last year he was inconsistent. But what we tend to forget is that last year was Banega's first season in Serie A, we had 3 different coaches, the team was in chaos, yet Banega still managed to have better stats than Valero who's been in Serie A for the past 5 years or so.

Also, Banega is 2 years younger.

Banega was definitely the better player.

Banega was our only capable AM with Brozo and Mario both too inconsistent and weak mentally. He was a monster before we buy him and playing like a monster again at Sevilla.

Banega will be like Kovacic and Coutinho in players we regret selling

Banega also was quite inconsistent and he wasn't good enough for AM at Italy.

5 goals and 8 assists playing under three managers in season is impressive. Imagine Banega playing for a great coach like Spallo.

We sold Banega before June 30th, when our books close, while we bought Valero later, with a new financial year

So actually we did more than just trading them indirectly, we avoided getting banned by UEFA's FFP joke
