Ahead of the release of his autobiography on Friday, former Inter striker Christian Vieri has revealed some fascinating revelations from his career, including the deal that almost brought Alessandro Nesta to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
"Vieri spoke of convincing then teammates Alvaro Recoba and Ronaldo to take salary cuts, in the hope of freeing up funds to facilitate Nesta’s move".
“All was agreed,” the former Nerazzurri striker told Gazzetta dello Sport.
‘Bobo’ then recalled the moment that Angelo Moratti called while he was at a horse racing event to deliver the news that Nesta was too expensive and Carlos Gamarra was going to be signed instead.
“I said nothing. Without even hanging up, I launched the phone towards the horse track with all my strength.
“In retrospect, it was nothing against Gamarra, who was a good defender, but at the time Nesta was the greatest.
“And he was ready to come to us.”
Nesta later joined AC Milan for around €30 million, where he would remain until 2012.
P/S: Not sure why this man isn't in LGI.
