Inzaghi keeps trying weird shit. Dumfries playing as striker, Brozovic as defender, Bastoni as winger, Perisic filling in everywhere.. I'm not complaining, since we were doing quite well in terms of game play.
There are 2 key aspects that I have been noticing in all our games now.
- We play well, there is great movement on and off the ball, and good interlinking. And while we create a lot of chances, there are very few clear cut chances. We have to do better in the final third. Part of this is on the individuals.
- We lack that individual quality. Both goals we conceded against Madrid were pieces of individual brilliance. No one in Inter can conjure that up. Hakan may have the odd good shot, but the rest are not good at shooting at all. And Correa is the only one who can take on defenders, but again not world class at it.
That lack of individual quality doesn't hurt us much against the average sides. We have enough talent, and are tactically well drilled enough, to overcome them by sheer dominance and chances created. But you need some brilliance to open up top sides. And we have seen that twice against Madrid now, and also the top 6 in Serie A.
Inzaghi is doing well enough. The first challenge that we have to see him overcome is a drop in form at some point, if it happens, or if some results don't go our way. The other is where we need help from Marotta and the owners to bring in some good players that can address the above issues.
Sanchez, Vecino, Gagliardini are all done. We need another dynamic midfielder, and one who has some goals in him. And we need a good forward. Scamacca and Raspadori are not there to raise our level yet.
