What about Lobotka. He is very talented Slovakian defensive midfielder. We like him equally with Skriniar. Just look at the game 13. october between Slovakia and Czech republic.

When was the last time we had a proper DM really? Cambiasso? Other than that its either they turned out they arent actually DMs, like Gagliardini and Kondo, or just shit, like Medel, Kuzmanovic and Gargano.

Cambiasso was actually a box-to-box midfielder. We converted him to DM.

Barella is extremely overrated and overvalued. Decent player for his age, but that's about it.

I disagree about overrated (got the skills but pushed around too easily) however I thik a lot of his skills overlap with Rafinha, who at this point would be cheaper - I like Barella but at this stage I doubt he is worth 40M gamble, especially considering our situation.

He does. I am sure we will have Spal situation many times this season (i.e. Brozo is unfit or injured or suspended) and Barella will help us getting a lot of points. Plus, keeping Brozo 100% fit for hard matches isn't possible if he isn't rested occasionally.

Starting both him and Brozo would work too. Croatia use Brozo and Modric while the latter isn't DM either.

Depends where you see the balance between necessary squad depth and wasted talent. I don't want Barella if he's going to be rotting on the bench and not developing. I don't care about the benefits of training with better players and all that shit, I would rather any young player we sign to benefit from 30+ games per season. But there's no way Barella (if he was used as a vice-Brozovic) would get enough game time. Perhaps you are right and Brozovic will miss plenty of games through injury, or maybe his retard mode will return, but for the time being I'm fine with Valero as a Brozovic sub.

As for using him at the same time as Brozovic, yes, it could work, but when Brozovic played for Croatia he was essentially reduced to a waterboy for Modric and Rakitic and his effectiveness is far, far reduced. I'm of the opinion that Rakitic had a really poor semi final and final. I think they'd have been much better letting Brozovic actually play some football and substituting Rakitic for Badelj, but whatever.

Either way, I'm not for reducing or compromising the playing style of our precious few top-class players simply to accommodate 'similar' players. Perhaps it's an odd way of describing it, but if my assessment of Barella (as being closest to Brozovic's role in our midfield) is correct, I wouldn't want two Brozovic's each doing a half Brozovic job on the pitch. As I stated, I think the best type of player to get the most out of Brozovic (and our entire team) would be a really good DM like Jorginho. I think Barella next to a Jorginho would be pretty good too but considering our budget, restrictions and needs to offload Joao Mario, Gabigol etc. I'd rather get the 'missing piece', which in my eyes is a DM, instead of an extra copy of a piece we already have.

Barella is extremely overrated and overvalued. Decent player for his age, but that's about it.

I'm inclined to agree. Every year there's these young-ish breakout box-to-box midfielders and they're highly rated for having a strong season, mainly praised for their maturity and all-roundedness on the pitch. Pellegrini, Cristante, Gagliardini, Kessie, Barella just to name a few recent ones. Perhaps you could stretch to include some shitters like Linetty, Praet, Pulgar, Pasalic or Murgia to the list. But I think most of them are solid at best and may lack the skill needed to make an impact at the top level. I think we might be seeing that with Gagliardini tbh. Even when he's played at his absolute best, he wouldn't be able to hold a candle to the likes Kante, Busquets, Casemiro etc. Compare that to Icardi and Skriniar. There are very, very few players in the world I would prefer to these two. Even Brozovic, I do genuinely believe he's one of the very best midfielders in the league right now. Arguably Milan have done the best with Kessie, but I don't even rate him that highly either.

The best defensive midfielder to pair with Brozovic is Moussa Dembele.

But our management are not smart enough..

If we get 40million or more, we should buy Ndombele..

This guy is future Kante.

I do agree with what Uni is saying to a certain extent, however I disagree that Jorginho would be a good partner for someone like Brozovic. At Inter Brozo basically is our Jorginho. Someone like NDombele who was previously mentioned makes a lot more sense if he actually is like Kante (haven’t seen enough yet to judge him). I even think N’Zonzi would have been a smart move as a Brozo partner.

If we want two passers in the midfield than we might as well go for barella. I think either way we should bring him next summer (if we make CL again) as a Valero replacement. He would be a year older with some Italian NT experience and more ready to fight Brozo for playing time.

Decent bench option but nothing more than that. Definitely not the player we need.

And this is what Azul said about him few days ago:

The scout apparently was also there to evaluate Herrera, who´ll most likely leave for free this end of the season, but I hope that´s a joke, he´s average at best, had one good season for Porto in like 5, he´s very humble and a hardworker, he´s our captain and I tolerate him for that but he´s not good enough for a better team/league imo.

That's what I fear with Ausilio. Next summer he won't need to resort to his former practices of 0+35m loan deals but will he able to understand that we must do a final leap forward and that means not buying average guys from Mexico even if they are on Bosman and essentially cost nothing for our annual balance.

I can see Spalletti just in love with Vecino even more these day. He just dgaf with the defense and gives Vecino license to attack the box more while keep Nainggolan just waiting outside the box. That Icardi goal againts SPAL is bit thx to Vecino who drag their defender away and let Icardi on side. So I doubt even people crying about pure DM, guess Spalletti wont even bother to look at it.

The thing is that I don't think we need a passing midfielder. We need someone who could move the ball as this seems to be an issue in the build-up. Therefore, yes, I think Rafinha or Barella would be the way to go.

Regarding Vecino - Spalletti loves him as he understand tactics very well. It's simple as that. As much as I think he doesn't have much flair skill-wise I also think that he is the person in the team who gets the coach the most. Also shown when playing for NT.

Indeed, Brozovic is our Jorginho pretty much, at least Spaletti envisions him to be.

We just need our own world class Barkley now.

Nainggolan in his Cagliari or early Roma days would have been a great partner to Brozo. That Radja was a B2B beast.

I mean, I really wish this Modric thing would die down now. IMO it was either this summer, or never.

Even if Modric can emulate a Pirlo like effect on our midfield we don't have the personnel to babysit him at the age of 34-35... Brozo and Nainggolan are great engines, but it just won't work IMO.
