This new Roma stadium is in the middle of nowhere, from my understanding. Curious to see how they draw.

Not really the middle of nowhere. It's not a central location but it's still in Rome. It's close to the indoor stadium and there are shopping malls around. The only issue is the lack of an underground station but they have 4-5 years to extend the line. The closest station is not that far so it'd take probably just 1 or 2 new stations.

Official: Stadio della Roma all-clear

Roma will get the most advanced Stadio in Italy.

It was official a year ago, haha. Good for them.

Yeah but that's a problem for all of Rome, they only have two lines and they're pretty well spaced out.

San Siro is also in the outskirts of Milan, although not really middle of nowhere. Location doesn't really matter as long as it's easily accessible.

(San Siro used to be about 20 minutes walk from the nearest metro btw)

That's a good thing about San Siro now. It has 2 options, either the new station or walk 20 mins to the other station. That's probably what keeps us from getting our own stadium, because a new stadium might not be as accessible while kicking milan out of san siro will be difficult as well.

Well, it needs a load of upgrades definitely. At least the toilet. lol. Even the seats are quite old. Maybe move the museum and the store inside. it's really annoying to see that garage blocking the beauty of the stadium right when you enter.

The tour isn't attractive at all. Basically it just says this is the inter changing room, this is the milan changing room, that's it.

But the question is.. how much can they improve from an old structure like san siro?

Yes. A reno can only do so much. The place needs an entire overhaul, so a new stadium is probably better.

The last time I was at the San Siro concessions were being sold off of a single plastic table and the only washrooms were portapotties. And this was on lower level sideline seats. So yeah, it's time.

My college is a sporting laughing stock, and even we have better infrastructure than that. I realize things are different in North America, but my god, this is part of the reason we and Milan bleed money

I wouldn't claim that. San Siro isn't the same anymore. We're living in a shadow.

What I feel about our stadium is the distance between players and fans. We do not see much of players celebrating with fans like in the PL.

My point stands.
German crowds and Celtic and various others have excellent atmosphere. That doesn't change anything. And I'm talking about the stadium itself, not the atmosphere the fans create. That could happen in any stadium.

But entering the San Siro is unreal. That stadium has a heart beat like no other. If you've ever been to an Inter-Juventus or Inter-Milan (maybe not from 2013-2016) or a big CL game you'd never argue against this. Even a tour there during the summer can be enough to realize that.

I just don't agree with that. A big part of the reason attending derbies is so magical is because of the teams and fans. I guarantee you that the atmosphere at Allianz Arena (or whatever they call it these days) tomorrow will be tremendous, because two of the best teams in the history of Italian football whose fans can't stand each other will be playing.

I love the San Siro and have some great memories there, but the stadium is a net negative in just about every way.

We do not play Juventus and Milan every week, do we? That's the problem. When it is not a big match, nobody gives a shit about coming to the match. Have you ever wondered why? Because there isn't any much entertainment.

When you enter the stadium, right from the gate to the entrance to the seat, there is nothing that is inviting and exciting unless you get the sky box.

The red zone for example, it is the most expensive zone, but you don't much of it. If you sit front row, there are those railings. If you sit further back, you get blocked by those sitting front row who stand up near the railing whenever we get a chance or score a goal.

I am speaking of my experiences in the last 5 years, I've been attending games at least 2x a year. I've been to the derbies, weak teams, coppa games. Also, I've been to the tour twice in the last 5 years. If there is anything I can comment, the second time I went there it was a very much disappointment to me.

The first time I went there, we were even given a chance to go on the pitch, sit on the player bench, went to the sky box, VIP lounge, etc. Now the tour consists only: this is inter changing room, this is milan changing room, let's go up the red zone which is the most expensive zone, then they explain curva nord and curva sud, then they tell you why the orange zone has only 2 tier. That's it. Then.. welcome to san siro store which is a complete bullshit compared to the inter store in the city. Then you can walk around a garage which they called san siro museum.

You may say entering San Siro is unreal, because you're an inter fan, but that shouldn't happen just to an inter fan. Everyone who visits should be able to feel that Inter home ground, like I said, right from the gate.

San Siro has a great historical value, but we should not be stuck in the history itself.

I said the stadium is atmospheric, you keep talking about who's playing and who attends.

Pick any two set of fans, the atmosphere will be better at the San Siro than any other stadium you can find in Europe. There's nothing else to it. It's a grand design for a football atmosphere. Just because Inter and Milan have been struggling and attendances have been rather low, it doesn't mean that the stadium has lost any of its key characteristics. Being old is another issue that affects other things. They have nothing to do with the atmosphere.

It's like viewing and going into the Duomo of Milano. Who cares if it's old and has maintenance construction every other month. It's probably the most beautiful large temple in Europe. Some might be fancier, some more modern, some brighter, some larger etc, but it's still going to be the best.

Yes.

The few world cup Braziliam stadiums I know are much more comfortable. Leg space in San Siro is really small in comparison and the old abandoned building just next to the stadium is just sad.
