And it's not like if Icardi does not touch the ball hardly at all or do not take part in build up play, that he's useless. He binds at least one defender to himself at almost every moment he's on the pitch. That's what top strikers do when they do not have the ball.

He touches the ball less than just about every striker in the league. Even players like Maccarone or Toni tend to have more touches than he does. And yes, he plays on the shoulder of the last defender, but it's not like opposition defenders are terrified of what he is going to do. He doesn't get double or triple teams every time he gets the ball like Dybala or Higuain or something which drags defenders away from other players. Teams are not scared to play a high line due to his exceptional pace, and he doesn't exactly have the ability that Inzagi had to simply always be in the right place at the right time. People like to compare him to Vieri, but he doesn't have the strength to bully defenders Vieri had. Something else he doesn't have is balls. You won't see him put his health on the line to get on the end of pass like some attackers. He's an exceptionally efficient finisher and a quality striker, but is that really enough for people to kick up such a fuss about him. He scores 22 goals in the league when he had the entire side playing for him. However, I believe football has moved on from the point where a "big side" can just rely on giving a great finisher enough good ball to win the league at the expense of having a well-rounded attack. Especially when that finisher needs near perfect service. Which is what Icardi asks of his teammates most of the time.

Just to be clear, I think Icardi is a very good striker. I just don't think he's the type of striker you win the league with, and for this reason I don't care if he leaves. Of course, I also think winning the league isn't a goal we should be aspiring to next season either.

I'm fine with him leaving, as long as we get an equally good or better replacement without it being a financial burden.

I also don't think we should sell him to anyone within theeaue as selling your captain and probably biggest asset is sending a bad message.

I have to strongly disagree with most of the points in this post. Do you have any statistics to confirm that he has less touches than Maccarone or Toni? I wouldn't be suprised if it is true because we were complete shit at getting the ball to the opposition box last season but I would like to see if it is really true.

Yes he gets double or triple teams every time he gets the ball because our wingers stay wide and our midfielder rarely get in the box. It leaves two or three defenders on him. I don't remember any teams in Serie A that play high line against us, maybe Napoli and Roma, the other pretty much sit back and wait. This 'he doesn't have balls' point is also very questionable because there isn't statistic that can prove it and I didn't get that vibe from him. That entire side that played for him was pretty much shit so you can't take those goals from him.

Perfect service from our team in last two season? I don't think so, he was happy if he got any service.

And the last point, you can have well-rounded attack with profilic goalscorer, in fact it is much easier to acomplish that if you have a striker that has the best conversion rate in the league and one of the best in Europe. Attack consisting of Perisic-Banega-add good right winger and Icardi upfront sounds pretty well-rounded to me. The only problem is that Mancini doesn't see attack as product of sistem, he thinks that attackers should be self-sufficent and rely on invididual skills.

Really? Does he really deserve any special protection? I could understand defending a playing like JZ or even Cambiasso who are players who would have probably bleed for our shirt, but Icardi? A player that according to enjoy's stats works less hard in defence than players like Dybala, Bacca and Higuain. I know defensive stats for a striker are only marginally important, but do you really think a player that cares so much about our shirt would defend not only less, but significantly less than those three lazy strikers?

Not to mention allowing his significant other/agent to make us look bad in the press?

With all due respect... Binding just one opponent player is parity -- or, put differently, shows zero advantage.

Of course no Shaun, he didn't deserve special protection, but definitely he deserve some respect and the most people here don't show it. Perhaps he is the most lazy striker, but at least he brought me more joy than any other players in the last 5-6 years. And by the way, I don't know how permanent you believe in the media? Journalists constantly looking for any sensationalism and their target is high rating. It's too stupid to believe in everything written in the internet, right? Icardi has been criticized even more than Mancini. Yes, Mancini, who for me is the main culprit for the plight of Inter. What did he do for Inter since he is our coach? So we can't give precise three passes in a row, we have no clear ideas, we have nothing! And comparison between Bacca and Icardi for me is more than funny. Bacca doesn't have and a half of his class and qualities.

Not hating on Icardi, not at all. Just saying it's not guaranteed things will only get worse for us if we lose him.

In the end opinions differ.

We can get a good idea of touches based on a few stats: dribbles per game, passes per game and shots per game. We can't know the exact number of touches because dribbles can last 2 touches or 10 touches, but we can at least see how many times they get the ball

Icardi
Passes: 15.9
Shots: 1.7
Dribbles: 0.6

Total: 18.2 times on the ball per game

Maccarone
Passes: 17.5
Shots: 2.2
Dribbles: 1.3

Total: 21.0 times on the ball per game

Toni
Passes: 16.0
Shots: 2.6
Dribbles: 1.1

Total: 19.7 times on the ball per game

Did journalists take over Wanda's twitter account? Did journalists force Icardi to be quiet while Wanda makes a mess of herself in the public?

You do realize his wife/agent is the one who keeps coming out and making ridiculous statements directly to the media (or on Twitter)? This has nothing to do with "journalists" and is entirely self-induced.

Did journalists take over Wanda's twitter account? Did journalists force Icardi to be quiet while Wanda makes a mess of herself in the public?

Beat me by 30 seconds.

Thanks. And this is against two of the least mobile and one dimensional forwards in the league. People will of course interpret it whatever way they like, but personally I believe Icardi spends most of his time trying to make an itch perfect run behind the opposition defence in hope of receiving an inch perfect pass, and more often that pass doesn't come. Which basically means our midfielders and wide attackers have no outlet most of the time. Which I believe contributes to why our attack is so disjointed. This is just my theory of course. I'm sure others will interpret these stats as proof that Icardi would score more often if he was playing at Verona and the issue is entirely with our other players.
