Plenty of Americans who know more than the average European fan, plenty who don’t.
It's like saying there are plenty of Europeans that know more about the NFL than the average NFL fan. This simply can't be true. Especially for a sport most of you guys didn't know existed before 1994... coincidentally the last time Bulgaria was of any relevance in that context.

No offense. I just think until recently soccer was practiced mostly by little kids, watched by their loving mothers attending training. Correct me if I'm wrong.

And yeah, new immigrants might be knowledgeable, since they've also imported their passion for the sport, but average Joes won't probably ever care about it. It's a cultural thing, like circumcision for example. I have no fucking idea why you guys insist on doing it to your kids, but hey...

Geography doesn’t dictate your passion for a sport, especially not in this day and age.

Sure it does. Otherwise 90+% of Europeans wouldn't be into football and 90+% of americans wouldn't be into hockey/basketball/NFL/baseball (counting people who are into sports).

I mean, sure globalization somewhat shifts these percentages, but not by a great margin. At least not do far, maybe in the (very) long term.

If anything, I would say that immigration in the u.s. has increased the number of people who watch football more than globalization.

Why are we even discussing this?

A lot of those little kids who played soccer in the 80s and 90s grew up to be fanatics. I know because you’re talking to one and a lot of my friends are the same. I would say most people in my friend group who grew up playing enjoy the game and watch it just as much as anyone. Being born in Europe or South America doesn’t give one a birth right to knowing more about the sport. Some of the stuff I see written on this forum and others certainly proves that.

Anyways this is off topic. Let’s keep the Lazaro thread for him.

By the end of the season, who will have played more minutes, Candreva or Lazaro? I'm saying Candreva.

I don't think this will even be close, especially once we sign Darmian from Parma in January to be Candreva's reserve

You’d be surprised - born and raised in the USA and I’m a big-time fan, and there’s pockets of friends that are super deep into the sport and fandom, particularly EPL.

I didn’t even play soccer (played football and wrestled in high school) and I have friends that are more into EPL/CL than they are into NFL.

A big part of it is FIFA as well, lots of Americans love FIFA, particularly Ultimate Team which requires you to actually pay attention to the sport to be good at it.

Anyways - I hope Lazzaro does well and I’m looking forward to his official debut. Kid’s young with a lot of energy and potential.

Yep, decent game from him. I like the fast and presice way he receives the ball, can add much fluidity as well.

He needs a little bit more of an end product but he has potential and in my opinion he would be an upgrade to Candreva on a long term.

Btw. nice game to watch yesterday :)

Delivering more of an end product than mister 1/1000 crosses is somewhat on target should not be hard.

I fully agree with the first point, I totally disagree with the latter. Poland is bloody terrible to watch and if I was Austrian I would be really pissed that we only got 1 point from both legs. You deserved more.
