Definitely, I could have finished that choke. I have never not finished a rear-naked from that position. It's like Jiu Jitsu 101. You don't even have to squeeze that hard. Except for whatever reason he had his top hand on Kimbo's head rather than behind his neck, which is why I definitely think it was a work

I'm glad you thought the same. I know very little about the sport (I'm starting to really like it) but it even looked obvious to me.

Word is that Aldo broke a rib in training. It's unsure what will happen with the title-fight, but Aldo could still fight. Would be a good excuse if he loses to get a rematch.

If he does pull out there will be a line of fighters wanting to fight Connor. Most of which will be wrestlers. I think they all fancy their chances against him

I think it will go ahead. Aldo really hates him.

Anyway, glad you're getting into the MMA. It would be good to have a few more people around here who watch it regularly. It can be a difficult thing to get into, especially if you don't understand/appreciate grappling. I'd recommend anyone who thinks grappling is stupid to go try out Jiu Jitsu or wrestling. There is nothing like rolling around with a quality grappler to understand just how completely fucked you would be in that situation.

A couple of great videos talking about Jiu Jitsu:

As for you Fitzy I would recommend watching the old ultimate fighter TV series. I used to live with a guy who got into UFC through watching that show, before that he was solely a WWE guy. My favourite season is s05

''Injured'' It's a rare opportunity for me to hop on a bandwagon. I'm sure Dana is loving the likes of myself and half of Ireland jumping on UFC dick.

You think Aldo is faking it? I really can't imagine a guy who hasn't lost in 10 years being scared of Conor. Unless he was juicing and is now afraid of the new UFC drug testing.

I am really looking forward to that fight - this injury is about to bring out a shitstorm of trash talking from McGregor. To be honest, I don't know how it didn't start yet, perhaps Dana gave him instructions to sit tight until it's clear if there will be a fight or not.
As for Aldo, I really doubt he would dare to fake it after all the media campaigns and millions spent in build-up to the fight.

Update: Conor McGregor just posted this:

Just know that it is business as usual up here at the top. See you all on July 11th.

Oh I don't know anything, I'm just getting caught up in the bandwagon ride.

i will go for conor on this one ...

i think he can freeze him with his movement and his style.. i like the way he fight, so calm so fluid, so precise and unpredictable

Aldo officially pulls out. Mendes vs McGregor for the interim title. In a lot of ways I think it makes it even more difficult for Conor as at least before Aldo would have at least tried to stand and bang for while

That wrestler pressure is going to be too much for him unless he can knock him out while Mendes is coming in for a takedown

i dont think conor is afraid of mendes wrestling... with all his movement and angles it may be difficult for mendes to go for takedown, also conors power shouldnt be underestimated as his precision... it will not be easy but i hope conor wins

i know wrestlers are in ufc the best fighters and all that shit ( i am big cormier fan ) but mendes will gas out after 3 rounds

Maybe, but I doubt it. He's never been in the cage with a top wrestler before so it's difficult to say, but I can't see him avoiding getting taken down. Anderson Silva had great movement, and wrestlers caused all sorts of problems for him.

I'm not sure how you could know how good his BJJ is since we haven't seen it in the UFC apart from a couple brief moments. However, he has been submitted twice before he was in the ufc.

well, ive seen how he pass the guard, control the opponent etc... he has been doing some grapling competitions... after that two knee bars he took it very serious.. thats my two cents, i cant be sure, but ive seen some good stuff from him... little but good

if he lost two times it doesnt mean he is still shit... he really improved his ground game... he also said some things in interview about grappling and his underestimating bjj hence the loss ... so, i hope you understand my point

EDIT: also eddie bravo said some nice things about his bjj

I get your point, but having good BJJ isn't going to stop Mendes from taking him down and trying to ground him down. It'll stop him from getting submitted. You have to have a fantastic guard to be able to threaten a quality wrestler off your back.

I've rolled with good wrestlers. They're not going to threaten for many submissions, but they're fantastic at staying on top

i do agree with you about wrestling and shit, thats why wrestlers are so dominant in ufc... but i have never seen mendes wrestling in UFC ( i have to say ive seen little of him maybe 3 4 matches ) .. and he can use his bjj aganst wrestler just like anderson silva did... how good his bjj is we are yet to see... im just talking based on what ive seen and heard
