I'm still in shock. Not the our players didn't deserve it, no, far from that. But these awards and usually voting panels are aggressively steered towards "stars". Whether it's coaches deciding or sports journalists, over the years I have seen recognition and praise bestowed upon the biggest names, not the biggest performers.
Inter specifically has suffered mores due to a complete bias against the team. The perceived "losers" of Italy, mocked all over Europe. Yes, how far we have come in the past 5 years compared to the past 20 or even 40... But even after Mou joined us we were still underdogs. We have big players but no big names... Maicon doesn't sell millions of shirts. Sneijder doesn't have action figures. Milito is not on the cover of PES 2012.
And I never thought I'd see the day when that changed. Even after our treble, I remained in shock. Surely our amazing performance will be forgotten by the same pundits who continued to cheer on Barcelona after we sweeped Catalonia clean. Well today we sweeped some awards clean, and more importantly the biggest award went to the biggest underdog of them all. Yes, I repeat this was the logical and fair outcome, but for the past ten years I have been watching groundless decisions and continued bias in the international football arena, hence my shock.
But today our achievements have overcome that, and we have demanded fairness l and received it.
I am so unbelievable proud, and despite this long worded post, I am furthermore speechless.
