I was in Monemvasia last summer. I was susprised to see lots of Italians there. Totally recommend. Medieval castle is truly magical.

If he wants to go to an island Rhodes is also a good suggestion. A good combination of great nightlife and historical sites. Medieval City, Grand Master's Palace, Acropolis in village of Lindos.

This post comes at a very convenient time for me as i am visiting Dublin in April. Any recommendations would be welcomed.

I went to Rhodes on a lads holiday like 10 years ago, but we were staying in faliraki. No one would take a day trip up to Rhodes and on our way back to the airport driving through Rhodes they all couldnt believe how nice the main town is, especially with faliraki being, eh, last it's best let's say.


Nice! How long are you going for and what are you interested in? Are you staying solely in Dublin? I'm not in Dublin much myself but I would say to avoid temple bar! Walk through it sure, but don't eat or drink in it, its a rip off. Go to somewhere like the boars head or whelans if you are drinking.
Avoid areas like Crumlin, tallaght and ballymun. Some rough areas. In the centre you should be fine.
There's an inter pub in the centre where loads of Italian inter fans watch us. Could be worth checking out. If interested I'll find the name again, it's just up from the spire and gpo so it's very central.
There should also be gaa on that time of year. I'd recommend a trip to croke park to watch Dublin play. Try to get tickets for the hill. Dublin will likely hammer whoever they are playing (if its football) but it's Irelands own sport, croke park is an 80,000 seater stadium and there will be a buzz about the day of the match. Good to sample that across a few pubs.

If you are heading out of Dublin I've a few places I'd recommend.

Derry and Belfast are probably the most accessible. Not sure now with Brexit.

The most beautiful parts of Ireland are located in the south and the west (and southwest, duh ) but a trip there relies upon the weather and the available time you have. Doubt you can visit 1-2 places at once, return to Dublin and then visit others, too inconvenient.

Ah nice, if your friend works in Dublin they will probably have lots of ideas. The woolshed is where inter club Dublin watch inter matches by the way. I was at a different pub but its close to the centre as well.

Outside of Dublin there is loads, some you might need a car for.
Galway is fantastic and there are trains that take you there.
Kilkenny is much closer and one of my favourite spots in Ireland. Lovely town and great nightlife.
Wexford has some amazing walks and scenery and is close to Dublin. If you watched the TV show vikings it's also where it was filmed.
there are trains to Cork but you'd need transport within there. You can get the train to Cork then a bus on to kinsale which is an amazing wee town.
Cliffs of moher but again transport to them is tricky. There is probably day tour buses from Dublin (paddywagon tours).

If you head up north, there is the game of thrones exhibition if you enjoyed that show. The titanic museum (I'd pass personally, not worth it IMO but lots of people love it. I knew 90% of what was being shown hence why I didn't find it worthwhile.)
And then the giants causeway but that's another bus tour.

I'd Google those different places. Depends what you are after, lots of ireland is catered around drinking and pubs lol depends how much time you want to spend travelling on different buses, trains etc too.

Other Ireland based folk feel free to add.

Brexit hasn't made any changes to this thankfully.

Yeah as brehme says South West and the West coast the nicest but transport a pain. Kerry is incredible but public transport to there is a disaster. Irelands public transport in general is awful. Staying in Dublin you'll be fine but anywhere else its not good.

I recommend a visit to the small town of Sirmione, which is also located by Lake Garda. Nice and calm

Leaving on friday to attend a festival at Mallorca and after that will fly to Sicily. Any tips to survive in 40 degrees? Last year I visited Sevilla when it was 40 degrees and you could only do things in the morning and in the evening. I'm afraid it will be the same in Sicily. Really excited to visit Parco Valle dei Templi finally and riding a vespa along the countryside. Any tips for when I'm visiting Catania and Palermo? Will try and visit both stadiums but when it's that hot I probably will be laying at the pool all day.

We were disappointed, went last year - nothing compares to Europa Land or Phantasia Land in Germany. This part of Italia is great to visit though, I agree. Venice for all the tourist trappings, it still remains a marvellous place to visit

We chose Costa Brava for first couple of weeks of July and it has been a magnificent choice - 3rd time here. Similar in ways to Cinque Terre or even the Calanques in Provence but perhaps more ideal due to pristine conditions and lack of too many tourists here in Cataluny. Food has been excellent but perhaps not level of Italy. Sea conditions are fantastic and it is beautiful

Yeah never said Gardaland is the best theme park out there, bur if you're in the area and want something different it's definitely worthwhile.

I'm going Costa del Sol this summer. Have something to do there but at least I'll be in Malaga area during their summer festival.

Haha nice one. There is an inter supporters club in Dublin and they meet up. Probably won't be anything happening tonight obviously but there is a community there. I'd recommend avoiding the temple bar pub in Dublin, it's really really expensive. A tourist trap

Yep. Huge housing crises in Dublin. It's a complete joke really, and the hotels price gouge like crazy. Very hot topic over here, it's generally cheaper for Irish people to stay 3 or 4 nights in Rome or some other major European city than it is to stay one night in Dublin.
