Occasionally i run into discussions with my friends - they stating: "Inter isn't italian, not today nor historically". I obviously don't have any good arguments rather than the fact that Inter is Italian, despite the low amount of Italians in the squad today. Can anyone help me? )
Inter not being Italian is the biggest bullshit I hear once in a while too, & the people who say appear to be a bunch of dumb ass douche bags:
1. Ask them whether they've gone to school & if they might know what the word "international", "internazionale", "internacional" could mean, depending on the language they speak? (I'm sure it's pretty the same word in almost all major languages)
2. Once you get an answer to that, ask them if they could probably think of a reason why would a group of people who decided to establish a club, might choose the name "internazionale"? What would be the message they intend to deliver by naming the club this way? Remember that this happened all in 1908, a time when club transfers weighing millions of dollars didn't mean anything.
Now if they keep looking at you like a bunch of idiots, which they'll probably will, teach'em a little history by saying:
"A group of Italians and Swiss were unhappy about the domination of Italians in the AC Milan team, and broke away from them, leading to the creation of Internazionale. From the beginning, the club was open to foreign players and thus lived up to its founding name. (Wikipedia)"
Honestly, this is why I fell in love with this club. It was all because of this beautiful concept of gathering players from all over the world under the same roof.
...& then tell'em it was MEANT to be this way idiots. It was meant that foreigners would play the major role in the club. I mean you break off A.C. Milan because of too many Italians, you make your own club cuz you want more foreigners, you name the club "internazionale" & there are still a bunch of idiots who still didn't get the message 100 years later! I can't think of another way to make your intention more clear than naming your club this way.
Finally to give the final uppercut, ask'em if they know how many Englishmen play for:
- Arsenal? (3 out of 24 players)
- Chelsea? (6 out of 24 players)
...AND THEY DON'T EVEN CALL THEMSELVES "INTERNAZIONALE"!!!
Never underestimate the power of idiocy
