Love the fact that solid defenders like de Vrij barely have any posts, it was the case with Samuel a silent warrior who rarely gives us stuff to talk about.

deV and samuel are not in the same stratosphere. DeV makes way too many mistakes to be in that class. Lacks the concentration and discipline.

I am assuming you didn't watch Serie A in the 80s and 90s. Even if you look only at this century, I think Nesta was a better CB overall. But for me, the greatest CB I ever saw was Franco Baresi.

I love Samuel, but he is not a GOAT.

Skriniar
This guy made me realise that while Skriniar is struggling with 3 at the back, maybe it was actually De Vrij who seemed to be struggling with 4 at the back. Either that or he made some big improvements this season. Bossy game, loved him.

De Vrij has a lot more experience with back 3 and had a really good season with Lazio before joining us. Skriniar is actually doing far better than what i expected as we have seen far more experienced defenders looking like amateurs while playing in a 3 man defence.

Silent warrior. His thread is almost a month without any posts.

Anyway, forgive me in advance if I jinx him.

I am not an expert but ... I wonder if he's not the best defender in the world if we count since the start of the season.

What a beast.

For me, MOTM. What is impressive is that not only he's probably our best player defensively, but he is also excelent when it comes to ball distribution. That ball that Lautaro converted was not an outlier.

I said it before, but I repeat: we talk about Skriniar being somewhat limited by playing 3 at the back but I keep on wondering whether it wasn't De Vrij who was limited last season by playing a different formation.

In his prime and fits the CB role in back 3 like a glove. Shame he can’t start for Netherlands as well, he deserves that recognition on current form.

Two assists in a row and each of them is a planned well-calculated pass. See his assists in Sassuolo and Dortmund matches. He times his advance well, he only moves forward when opponents are occupied hence he will have plenty of time and space to thread a killer pass.

He looks much better than last season. For me right now he is our best defender. Seems the system suits him and penalizes the others

It looked to me like Borussia were inviting him to carry the ball forward, forgoing putting much pressure on Stefan to continue man marking Brozovic.

Fools.
