He is a a Bielsa disciple having played for him before. He is very successful in South America doing a great job with Paraguay and with Newells last season he won the Torneo Final but lost against the Torneo inicial winner in the "final." He also reached the Copa Libertadores semi-final losing against Ronaldiho's Atletico Mineiro.
I don't know if he is Barcelona level, probably not, but he has a good track is South America.
This is what INTER should be doing and I applaud Barca for doing it...STICK TO A MODEL. We chase somebody with a "track record" or somebody to "stabilize" without thinking for a second about football philosophy, playing style e.t.c. We chase the short term. They chase the long term.
All successful coaches have to start somewhere. Martino is a very, very good coach who embodies their playing style and fits well with the barca squad. THAT is more important than chasing down random coaches who's ideas do not match your players and then whine, cry and blame the coach when it doesn't work out
