cant help myself to think, what the fuck was real thinking when buying Illarramendi for that money?

Really don't know. I liked him a bit but not THAT much, now they have a clusterfuck in Midfield unless they sell someone. They always seem to need someone very expensive on the bench.

The guy has zero goals and zero assists his entire career. From what i've seen good dribbler, good at holding the ball, and that's it. 40 mils? Jesus fucking Christ, insane.

You are looking at the wrong stats Pajo. He is a defensive midfielder and one of the best players for the Spain U21 team. He was way too overpriced but Real Sociedad didn't want to let him go so Madrid had no choice but activate his release clause. They just do what's best for the team rather than worrying about numbers.

He is a very good midfielder and he will replace Alonso and can play that role for 10 years easily. Very good on the ball and defensively he is very good. Superb addition for them, just that way too overpriced but Madrid had no choice.

It was like Javi Martinez, everyone said 40 Million reported (which is way too much, 40 Million plus VAT and all that BS) was too much for him and now it looks like a Bargain.

It doesn't. :D Martinez was always highly rated, this guy, not so much. WAY too overpriced. I'd say 15-20 mils would've been fine. I also thought he played little higher on the pitch, like defensive minded CM?

Martinez was highly rated but at that time the price Bayern paid looked ridiculous. I mean 40 Million plus Vat for a DM.

IMO he is very similar player except not as talented as Martinez. Way too overpriced but like I said once Madrid wants the player they don't care about the price.

It's true they don't care about the price, but that doesn't mean they didn't get ripped off.

I don't think it's a smart move at all. Martinez IMO is incomparable both in terms of talent and proven ability at the time of sale. He's multifunctional player (DM, CM, CB) who was already in the Spanish squad be it on the bench.

However what really makes this move pointless is you already have Luca Modric in the squad, and you still own Sahin. How many replacement Alonso's are you gonna buy? This just shows Modric was a Mou player and never highly rated there. It's not like you can throw him in AM as Ozil is there, and you can't move him wide in fear of benching the other new boy Isco, who is already keeping Di Maria out the team.

This is based off the assumption no one will be sold. But hey what's Real Madrid without a couple world class players rotting on the bench. Ancelotti will find his old flame Kaka nice and ripe.

Tito is resigning because of health issues. Shame really that his career never really took off as a manager.

Real don't ever make sense. Paying like 35m for modric when Cazorla was sold for 15m . I never understood why real or Barca never spend heavily on a defender (well maybe, Perez said makelele didn't score goals or w/e when he sold him) when it's obvious that's the weakest part of their team.

Any news who's the replacement? Strange that Tito didn't resign immediately after the end of last season. Now they're left scrambling.

They are talking about Rubi who coached Girona last year and joined the staff for this year. Also seen rudimentary Bielsa rumors.

The issue with Tito came up at a recent check up he had (I believe it was just this week), before then there were no issues where he wouldn't be able to coach the team.

I heard Andre Villas Boas has some Barca release clause.

Another guy that is being mentioned is Gerardo "Tata" Martino who is a Bielsa disciple. It is being said though that Luis Enrique is in pole position for the job.

Ultimately that team is a well oiled machine against lowly La Liga teams. I'm sure Xavi, Iniesta and Messi will coach the team so I don't think they'll have many problems in La Liga, its in the Champions League where I think they could have problems.

I truly hope that Tito wins his battle with cancer. I wish him all the best. He seems like a good person. :star:

This is bugging me tbh. I can understand Luis Enrique, or Laudrup, or Villas Boas, but why would some unknown coach from a South American league be linked to Barce-fucking-lona? Did he pull a rabbit out of his hat or something? I Wiki-ed him and could only found out that he finished as runner-up with Newell Old Boys.

He is a a Bielsa disciple having played for him before. He is very successful in South America doing a great job with Paraguay and with Newells last season he won the Torneo Final but lost against the Torneo inicial winner in the "final." He also reached the Copa Libertadores semi-final losing against Ronaldiho's Atletico Mineiro.

I don't know if he is Barcelona level, probably not, but he has a good track record in South America.
