Vrsajlko or however its spelt had a total shitshow. Dambro vs milan please.

Vrsaljko is just returning from injury, it will take time for him to get back to his usual form. Milan game is in two weeks so there is sufficient time. That said, D'Ambro is a better defender while Vrsaljko is better going forward, so it will always be a tactical decision between those two.

We played 4-2-4 for 4 minutes and scored. Spalletti took the chance and it worked, Spal looked completely lost in defense when Lautaro came in despite having all of their players parking the bus before Icardi's goal. Also in those 4 minutes we had almost 100% possession unlike the rest of the game.It didn't take long before he brought back in Gags for "balance".

I hope Spalletti takes more of those 4-2-4 chances in the future with Brozo-9 in midfield due, it sure looked more exciting and daring compared to the humiliating 90 minutes of the opposition pressuring our ass and forcing Handa to make heroic saves over and over to keep us in game, I fail to see how is that "keep the team in balance" as Spalletti claims?

Glad there's a break right now. Hopefully it will freshen our game. I'm sure we wouldn't have gotten away with this kind of bullshit performance again.

Our defence was in shambles overall, not just at the goal. Cause for feeling unease about this season, but heeeey, we are third atm <3.

Someone who rarely watches Serie A told me that he found the game very fascinating and entertaining. EPL fanboy actually. Prefered it to the Liverpool-Man City game.

So rejoice, we're winning new fans now with our spectacular display.

A draw against Spal, before the international break and with a crucial run of games incoming, would have been more than underwhelming.

I loved the slight variation on the classic "Perisic-to-Icardi" theme.
And, late or not, the last two substitutions (Lautaro and then Gagliardini) immediately helped to make things right.

Anyway, hats off to our opponents: they ran like mad men, delivering a Fuentes-que performance. Lazzari was fueled by his Milanista heart.

International break, I knew you'd come (again).

Well the 4-2-3-1 didn't really work for 80 minutes, our 2 midfielders didn't stand good, there were big big spaces for SPAL. We were always in trouble.
I couldn't understand why Spalletti didn't substitute a midfileder in for a striker, so we could close the middle, and with 2 strikers it would be easy to score the second or then a third goal.

Icardi - Keita
Nainggolan
Borja Vecino Gagliardini
Asamoah Skriniar Miranda Vrsaljko
Handa

Two quite opposite views, one wants more attack at the expense of midfield (4-2-4) and the other wants more midfield solidity at the expense of attack (4-4-2). Personally I think Spalletti is doing the right thing to find a balance between these two views, because once we find it will be more sustainable.

4-2-4 can work well in short periods, like it did yesterday, but we are not ready to start it as our Plan A yet. Specially because we have no DM. Also because for this to work our 4 attackers will need to score bucket loads, and I don't think we have enough attacking quality - not yet at least. If Martinez and Keita strike great form, then maybe this could be an option.

4-4-2 is wrong for us for many reasons. The two main reasons being:
1. We just don't have enough quality midfielders in the squad to play this sustainably
2. I can't see us scoring enough goals to get the results we seek

For the squad we have, Spalletti is on the right track tactically - a decent balance between our goal threat and midfield solidity. Once the new players are fully integrated and the tactics starts clicking, this would work. I can already see some progress from the beginning of the season to now, we just need to keep improving.

My post was only about yesterdays game, when we were really in trouble the whole match.
A fourth midfielder would have given us calm and solidity, specially after Icardi scored the 1-0

They should watch us against Barcelona, there will be more goals than in a Liverpool game.

True, that game was horrible.

Still, we have soooo much to work on. We are one great midfielder from being a Serie A contender.

Yup.

We probably would have been there already, had we taken Kessie instead of Gagliardini.

Kessie is not a great player and in no way would he make us a contender. He'd be a good replacement for Vecino for sure, but he also lacks technical ability and not the smartest player overall - really good physicality and runs into the box though.

Kessie's technical ability is SIGNIFICANTLY better than almost all our MFs. I'd recommend watching him more. Ball control is flawless. No "heavy foot" touches like gags or vecino.

Agree with Nyall here. Kessie over gags every day and twice on sunday.

I'd disagree. If his ball control was flawless, he'd be 100 million player in the market right now - flawless would be someone like Kroos and I don't Kessie can come close to him on technical ability, nor to someone like Modric. He definitelly has a better technique than Vecino and I'd say Gags as well - but I don't think he has a better technique than either Brozovic or Nainggolan.

Borja Valero Ball Control one hundred times better than Kessie ..

:yao:

He is not better than Rafinha or Brozovic in terms of ball control.
