Why I am more confident in this team than Inter 2009-10?

My feeling as well. I think this team creates more, and I like some current players better than a few guys from that generation.

The Treble team showed up when it was real, though, like proper champions. These guys haven't been tested yet in that way. Mixed feelings here. I see a lot of potential though. Pavard, Basto, Barella, Lautaro, all world or continental champions at some point, that's huge imo

We have to give this guy credit. What he’s doing is special, not just for Inter but for football. He is bringing ideas and concepts to reality that on paper seem crazy. Yet we do it at such a high level that it seems natural and we don’t lose defensive stability.

Look at this picture from a moment in the match. Our 3 CBs are in the midfield during build up. At one point during today’s match De Vrij was running at Atletico’s defense and almost have a killer pass to Thuram. This really isn’t normal, we have to recognize this.

Roque Junior was not that special tbh and Lucio was more of a brute force type than a skillful type. I remember Mourinho specifically instructed Lucio not to venture passed the halfway line because he would fall straight into Van Gaal's trap since he wasn't that good with the ball under pressure.

While Pavard - de Vrij - Bastoni all have the ball control, composure, passing range, vision that can rival midfielders.

The only defensive trident that matches this was Germany in the 90s whenever (rarely) they played Lothar Matthaus and Matthias Sammer together at the back with Thomas Helmer, if Kohler wasn't playing. But that was more theoretical than a proper trident that functioned.

Can't think of a back 3 as good as this.

Thuram-Cannavaro-Sensini and the 2010s gobbi back three are probably the other two that complete the top 3 in Serie A recent history. Was definitely not like our crew...

tbh though, throwing too much money at a problem can cause its own problems. Look at how long it took City to settle down into any degree of quality, for example. We're working well on a shoe string budget. We could definitely increase 'a bit', but a lot of money means we'd stop signing many of the sorts of players that has really worked out well for us like Mkhi, Acerbi, Darmian, etc going forwards.

The way the team supports each other. Just look how the team celebrated together with Arna.
This is a result of great characters in the team, but also Simone who get's the best out of them all.

I'm fully confident in Simone to get the best out of (nearly) everyone who comes here.

more money wouldn’t make us be stupid with it. Marotta isn’t an idiot, it would give us more resources to buy the Pavards and Frattesi’s instead of the Klassens and Sanchez.

We were wise not to waste money on Morata or overpay for Taremi. If we had more money back in the summer we could have gotten our GK instead of him going to Benfica.

On the topic, of all the managers who came to Inter lately (Conte, Spaletti, Mancini) I’ve had the least expectations from Inzaghi and saw him as a potentially transitional manager that wouldn’t be too mad about us not spending enough on transfers. Little did I know he’d become the coach who makes us play the most entertaining and dominant football we’ve seen since the Treble era.

I’ve grown to really like him, no whining, proper team management, amazing tactician. His biggest weakness comes from the quality of our rotation players that is still a bit underwhelming, yet even in this department I feel like he improved a lot recently, as our rotational squad beats the low-tier teams easily and even players like Arnautovic start showing up for the big matches.

Mad respect, he’s become my favorite Inter coach after Mourinho during my 20+ year stint of supporting Inter

Sneijder alone was more creative than the trio of our current midfielders. That long through ball Hakan made to Dimarco - Wesley used to do that every week.

You are right. But at the same time, Barella/Hakan/Mikhi any of those 3 is more creative than our second most creative player of 2010. Let's say, Stankovic. We might have a better team in terms of balance right now, but we lack 2 world class players like Maicon and Sneijder concretly.

There are key differences. This side plays better, but 09-10 team was filled with MEN, who knew this could and probably would be their last chance to do something special together.

This seasons improved confidence isn’t really unfounded. We had to come up against a Barcellona who were perhaps one of the greatest sides of all time in those years. There are no teams of that calibre in this years tournament. I’m not even saying we’ll necessarily get passed Atletico, but the only sides I think are on par with us are Real and City. I’d prefer to come up against city personally, but no doubt either would be a very difficult tie. We also have the confidence of making the final last year when in 09-10 we hadn’t done shit in Europe for years.

For what it’s worth, if this side played the 09-10 team, I think Zanetti and the boys would find a way.
