I was very surprised at the number of reports coming out lately accusing Inter of being on top because of referee mistakes. What's more alarming is how many people trust a shadow report without questioning the source or methodology.
I wanted to do something more, and thanks to information I got from Hussein, posts on Kooora and inter.ae forums, and having watched every single game mentioned below, I give you:
THE CORRECT STANDINGS IN SERIE A 08/09 WITHOUT REFEREE MISTAKES
I took the liberty of deciding the outcome of the below games, based on me watching them, and based on the next post which lists the mistakes. In every single case, I have always sided with our opponents. For example, Mario's penalty against Roma could very well be valid, but I decided to give the victory to Roma because they deserved it. Juventus might have not won the game if it wasn't for that very first goal against Milan, but I decided to give them the game because Milan were losers.
In any case, the research done here is 100 times more than stupid reports on Goal.com which just say "Inter should've lost 20 points" and show an arbitrary rank.
The changes:
1- Milan vs Inter - Draw
2- Milan vs Siena - Draw
3- Atalanta vs Milan - Draw
4- Milan vs Chievo - Draw
5- Milan vs Catania - Draw
6- Milan vs Cagliari - Draw
1- Atalanta vs Juve - Draw
2- Catania vs Juventus - Draw
3- Juventus vs Fiorentina - Fiorentina wins
1- Siena vs Inter - Draw
2- Inter vs Milan - Draw
3- Bologna vs Inter - Draw
4- Inter vs Roma - Roma wins
Q - Why aren't Roma considered?
A - The top three contenders are Inter, Juve, and Milan. Everyone else is ignored and would not affect the ranking of the top teams players.
Q - How can you decide the result for games? It's impossible to tell what would have happened!
A - What about the stupid methods Italian newspapers and crappy websites like Goal.com used to villanize Inter? People had no problem believing that without any source or indication of methodology. At least I'm honest about the method.
Q - What about X game where the referee made another mistake?
A - We're only considering major game changing mistakes. Referees make dozens of mistakes in each game.
Q - This is only up to week 28, what about the rest of the season?
A - Feel free to take this and update it as you see fit. For me, the conclusion is as clear as the sun.
Q - I disagree with this.
A - That's your right... please don't spam this thread with arguments. The above is my personal opinion, not a scientific study, and I can clarify my thoughts behind it, but I'm not interesting in picking a fight or even responding to an argument.
