I was very surprised at the number of reports coming out lately accusing Inter of being on top because of referee mistakes. What's more alarming is how many people trust a shadow report without questioning the source or methodology.

I wanted to do something more, and thanks to information I got from Hussein, posts on Kooora and inter.ae forums, and having watched every single game mentioned below, I give you:

THE CORRECT STANDINGS IN SERIE A 08/09 WITHOUT REFEREE MISTAKES

Code:
Rank Team Played Win Draw Loss Points
1 Internazionale 28 16 10 2 58
2 Juventus 28 15 7 6 52
3 Fiorentina 28 15 4 9 49
4 Genoa 28 13 9 6 48
4 AS Roma 28 14 6 8 48
6 AC Milan 28 10 13 5 43
7 Palermo 28 13 3 12 42
8 SS Lazio 28 12 5 11 41
8 Atalanta 28 12 5 11 41
10 Cagliari 28 11 7 10 40
11 Catania 28 9 9 10 36
11 Napoli 28 10 6 12 36
11 Udinese 28 9 9 10 36
14 Sampdoria 28 8 9 11 33
14 Siena 28 8 9 11 33
16 Chievo Verona 28 6 10 12 28
17 Bologna FC 28 6 9 13 27
18 Torino 28 5 9 14 24
19 US Lecce 28 4 11 13 23
20 Reggina 28 3 11 14 20
I took the liberty of deciding the outcome of the below games, based on me watching them, and based on the next post which lists the mistakes. In every single case, I have always sided with our opponents. For example, Mario's penalty against Roma could very well be valid, but I decided to give the victory to Roma because they deserved it. Juventus might have not won the game if it wasn't for that very first goal against Milan, but I decided to give them the game because Milan were losers.

In any case, the research done here is 100 times more than stupid reports on Goal.com which just say "Inter should've lost 20 points" and show an arbitrary rank.

The changes:

1- Milan vs Inter - Draw
2- Milan vs Siena - Draw
3- Atalanta vs Milan - Draw
4- Milan vs Chievo - Draw
5- Milan vs Catania - Draw
6- Milan vs Cagliari - Draw

1- Atalanta vs Juve - Draw
2- Catania vs Juventus - Draw
3- Juventus vs Fiorentina - Fiorentina wins

1- Siena vs Inter - Draw
2- Inter vs Milan - Draw
3- Bologna vs Inter - Draw
4- Inter vs Roma - Roma wins

Q - Why aren't Roma considered?
A - The top three contenders are Inter, Juve, and Milan. Everyone else is ignored and would not affect the ranking of the top teams players.

Q - How can you decide the result for games? It's impossible to tell what would have happened!
A - What about the stupid methods Italian newspapers and crappy websites like Goal.com used to villanize Inter? People had no problem believing that without any source or indication of methodology. At least I'm honest about the method.

Q - What about X game where the referee made another mistake?
A - We're only considering major game changing mistakes. Referees make dozens of mistakes in each game.

Q - This is only up to week 28, what about the rest of the season?
A - Feel free to take this and update it as you see fit. For me, the conclusion is as clear as the sun.

Q - I disagree with this.
A - That's your right... please don't spam this thread with arguments. The above is my personal opinion, not a scientific study, and I can clarify my thoughts behind it, but I'm not interesting in picking a fight or even responding to an argument.

Again, thanks to Hussein for this, from Kooora forums and other online sources.

Refereeing mistakes in favor of Milan (only major ones)

1. Milan 1 v 0 Inter (Ronaldinho’s winning goal)

18_01229814305.jpg

2. Milan 1 v 0 Siena (Kaka’s penalty, just see how softly Inzaghi went to ground without being touched)

28011_01230123662.gif

3. Atalanta 0 v 1 Milan (with the score at 0-0 Maldini trips Floccari and nothing is given)

28011_11230123662.gif

4. Milan 1 v 0 Chievo (the Chievo player trips Kaka outside the area and the referee awards Milan the spot kick, which Kaka converted successfully)

18_01230142011.jpg

5. Milan 1 v 0 Catania (Kaladze’s hand ball and no penalty given. That happened in 2nd half stoppage time)

18_01230141579.jpg

6. Milan 5 v 1 Udinese (with the score at 0-0 a clear foul on Maldini that deserved a straight red goes unpunished)

18_11230141579.jpg

7. Milan 1 v 0 Cagliari (Inzaghi pushes the Cagliari player into his keeper and Seedorf slots home)

inzaghi60.jpg

8- Napoli 0 v 0 Milan (Hamsik denied a valid goal for a false offside flag)

mie0di.jpg

9- Chievo 0 v 1 Milan (Chievo denied a valid goal for an offside call. Although two players were in an offside 'Position', they did not interfere with play or cause an offside 'Offence' as per Law 11 of the game)

350tehd.jpg

Refereeing mistakes in favor of Juventus (only major ones)

1. Juventus 4 v 2 Milan (with the score at 0-0, Juventus is awarded a penalty which Del Piero converts for 1-0. As you see he was offside when the play started)

18_01230141811.jpg

2. Atalanta 1 v 3 Juventus (Del Piero’s first goal came from an offside position on Marcheoni)

18_21230141811.jpg

3. Atalanta 1 v 3 Juventus (with the score at 1-2, Marcheoni brings Floccari down and no penalty)

18_21230141579.jpg

4. Catania 1 v 2 Juventus (with the score at 1-1, Marcheoni handles the ball and nothing is given)

581553716.jpg

5. Juventus 1 v 0 Fiorentina (Gilardino’s goal cancelled for a non-existing offside)

391662267.jpg

6. Juventus 1 v 0 Fiorentina (Jovetic denied a clear penalty)

686976001.jpg

7. Juventus 2 v 3 Cagliari (with the score at 1-1, Molinaro couldn’t keep the ball in and crosses for Nedved to score. Thankfully Cagliari managed to pull level and win the game later)

382625079.jpg

8. Genoa 3 v 2 Juventus (Nedved elbows Mesto and splits the poor guy's head open. The referee doesn't notice it, otherwise it would have been a straight red. I think even a yellow would have been enough for him to miss the Derby)

2pr9owh.jpg

9. Genoa 3 v 2 Juventus (Del Piero dives and gets a completly non-existent penalty even after the assistant referee signalling for a corner kick, and Ferrari is booked for no reason)

9u7mls.jpg

10. Juventus 1 v 1 Inter (Legrottaglie fouls Zlatan in the penalty area, but the ref does not award a PK. 30 seconds later, Juve score)

8pdf.jpg

Mistakes in favor of Inter.

1. Siena 1 v 2 Inter (Maicon's offside goal)

2di3j1c.jpg

2. Bologna 1 v 2 Inter (Adriano hand ball before Cambiasso scores)

vy1afl.jpg

3. Inter 3 v 3 Roma (Balotelli’s penalty)

hsvpfb.jpg

Note - Inter 2 v 1 Milan (Adriano’s hand ball) - Highly publicized in the media, but as per the laws and subsequent statements by Collina, this was obviously unintentional, and a valid goal.

Great work.

Most of the mistakes(apart from Siena Maicon goal) that we got in our favour was very fast paced moves that no referee can get right.
I think Balotelli went down easily, but it was a penalty.

And poor Floccari :)

Thanks Ehsan.

Look at Milan, they'd be 6th with 5 points between them and the team in front of them. Those fuckers.

Hamsik was robbed 5 minutes ago. Scored an "offside goal".

Goal.com

The ball is whipped in from the corner...Zalayeta heads down for Hamsik!!!! GOOOOOLLLL....Napoli have the lead.....No its been ruled out!!!!...Hamsik was penalised for a possible offside.

Sure. If it was Inter they will be crying about controversy.

Thanks for the positive feedback and praise guys, and don't forget Hussein as well.

I've updated the mistakes list with Hamsik's goal, but I'll keep the table is it was. I'll try to update the images in the future if more incidents occur.

Thanks for the work. It's good to see these things.

The only thing I don't agree is the giving of points. Ofcourse nobody can fill in the rest of the match after a penalty wouldn't been given etc.
Thats why I hate those kind of new competitions. I wish the press never have done that....

Updated with Nedved's dirty elbow and Del Piero's dive.

If I missed anything in the past 2 weeks let me know. I wasn't interested in watching Milan matches.

EDIT: It was SO difficult to find any info because nobody is reporting it, but Chievo were denied a goal for a wrong offside goal. Forza Silvio I guess...

Anyway, Pellisier scored from a free kick, but it was disallowed because two players were in an offside players... however, they were not A- interfering with play, B- Interfering with an oponent, or C- gaining an advantage in that position, any of which is absolutely necessary to be called offside. In fact, the goal came in Dida's right, while both Chievo players were well several feet to his left, and nobody was blocking his view of the ball.

Btw, why do you consider it an offense when Adriano 'handled' the ball against Milan & Bologna? Collina has come out and say that if the ball hits another part of the body first before the hand, play can go on.

No disqualification to Nedved will be hilarious.

Btw, Ehsan, there was a handball in our first game against Gobbi. Ref never gave a penalty. It was in first minutes. As far as i remember Zlatan tried to cross and one their Ms handled the ball.

Regarding Adriano's handball, I agree maybe I should take it out. But in the mind's of all our opponents it's already an offense, and I think it'll give more credibility to this thread to be leaning a bit against Inter and still see that we have the least mistakes in our favor.

Ilkino do you have a picture or clip of that? I couldn't find it on youtube.

I clearly remember seeing it in the full game. Maybe one of our uploader friends will be able to help.
