You can't lie with the data. Yeah he's a big critic, but facts are facts
Yes, you can lie with "the" data because there's no "the" data, there's just data. Numbers have been used to sell a story that doesn't exist for decades.
You can lie when you nitpick and just throw random numbers there and pretend that you've said something important that stands.
It's a fact that we conceded a lot of goals but those came mostly due to defensive mishaps, not because the goalkeeper was weak.
Versus Lecce.
1) Through ball, one-on-one from a tight angle. Handanovic keeps the near post safe while a defender is closing in with a tackle that should have prevented the far angle. He's too late and it's a low shot at the far corner ending up in a goal. Your data doesn't say that Handanovic's goalkeeping was textbook here.
Versus Lazio.
2) First goal you can fault him for his positioning but there were also two defenders sleeping on Felipe Anderson there.
3) Second goal. No idea how anyone in the world saves that Luis Alberto strike.
4) Third goal. Pedro somehow manages to squeeze a shot at the far post between two defenders who sit and watch. Darmian needs to be more aggressive there. Pedro had the corner of the goal in his sight for far too long while Handanovic had his vision blocked by De Vrij for the most part. Cannot blame the keeper here.
Versus Cremonese
5) Okereke was left free outside the box, has all the time in the world and curls in an absolute beauty. Nothing a keeper can do.
Versus Milan
6) First goal. Could have been stopped as he got a hand to it and almost tipped it wide. Poor defending following the Hakan error as De Vrij who was the intended recipient had to recover his position as well. Goalkeeper was caught by surprise but still managed to get a hand to the ball. Leao shouldn't have been free with the ball in that spot.
7) Second goal. Defense slept. Tricky fluke shot that the keeper could have saved if luck was on his side. Everyone's at fault for letting this become a chance. Dumfries, Skriniar and De Vrij. We shouldn't have conceded from there and this is also where you could argue that another keeper may have saved it, not due to quality but as I said earlier, mostly due to luck.
8) Third goal. I honestly hope you're not putting any blame on Handanovic here.
So you could arguably blame him for the first Lazio goal and the second Milan goal. Anything more is being harsh on him.
The only reason I write these is because I see a lot of (negative) bias. I did the same when Padelli played a bit and will do the same when Onana gets his time on the pitch. People have no understanding of how goalkeepers react, what their capacities as humans are and generally what goalkeeping takes. I've coached this thing at some (shit tier, but still) level.
