Weak goalkeeping at the first goal when he sidestepped to the right just as leao pulled the trigger when he should finish shifting position and start little jump to stop the incoming shots. He did it at Firmino's goal last season and it happened again last night.

It's not weak goalkeeping lol. It's a decision and adjusting your position based on the potential outcome.

Leao is not left footed and he doesn't usually shoot first time with his left. When he does, it's usually a low strike. Handanovic was expecting him to either play a parallel pass to the striker or control the ball and fire in the close corner, which is more in line with what Leao does and generally what right footed players would have done. Leao obviously is capable of using his left and everyone knows that, but not that way.

If you check the goal, you'd see that Handanovic did the right thing closing on the near post because it was widely exposed. At the same time, Milan had two players that could have pounced at the far post with our defenders fixated on the ball rather than their opponents.

With Firmino it was a fluke strike with his neck, it couldn't have been anticipated as an attempt at goal from that angle and player movement.

Handanovic's could have stopped the 2nd goal but again, everyone froze and we had the worst defensive setup. It was like an offside trap at 2 meters away from our own goal...

Three players on Leao, a fourth watching closely.

I'd blame Skriniar there initially for doing absolutely nothing and not disturbing the potential path of the ball and De Vrij right after for not closing in early on Giroud. With so many bodies you should have anticipated that a low cross would have been the attempt.

By the time the ball reached Giroud, De Vrij was still trying to change his direction and he was further away from him. Too late.

The irony is that if it were a clean strike, Handanovic would have definitely stopped it. He only missed it because it wobbled a couple of times. That's usually the hardest type of shots to stop, ones where the ball hits the ground just before it reaches your span.

Yeah sure, Handa is never to blame, it’s always the defense and his wrong feelings. Same story every time.

Handa makes stupid mistakes > Handa fans defending him by writing long essays explaining how is not to blame and how he saved our asses in other occasions.

The amount of goals that should have been saved this season alone is scary and it will only get worse.

You're problem is that you're trying to find blame.

It's football. Goals are scored. Goalkeepers concede them.

They cannot save everything. Stop expecting that.

I wish he gets benched just so everyone will finally realize its not him whos the problem. Cant wait to see who will the internet find as the next scapegoat.
The sooner everyone realizes this whole team, with the coach is shit, the better.

I ve been denending samir on here a lot, and i still dont think he s our main problem, but he clearly took a step back last season.
While i dont blame him for the goals he could have done better Imho and since we have Onana on the bench i think we re at a point where we should give him a go. I m not sure Onana is better but will never find out with him sitting on the bench.

You can't lie with the data. Yeah he's a big critic, but facts are facts

Yes, you can lie with "the" data because there's no "the" data, there's just data. Numbers have been used to sell a story that doesn't exist for decades.

You can lie when you nitpick and just throw random numbers there and pretend that you've said something important that stands.

It's a fact that we conceded a lot of goals but those came mostly due to defensive mishaps, not because the goalkeeper was weak.

Versus Lecce.
1) Through ball, one-on-one from a tight angle. Handanovic keeps the near post safe while a defender is closing in with a tackle that should have prevented the far angle. He's too late and it's a low shot at the far corner ending up in a goal. Your data doesn't say that Handanovic's goalkeeping was textbook here.

Versus Lazio.
2) First goal you can fault him for his positioning but there were also two defenders sleeping on Felipe Anderson there.

3) Second goal. No idea how anyone in the world saves that Luis Alberto strike.

4) Third goal. Pedro somehow manages to squeeze a shot at the far post between two defenders who sit and watch. Darmian needs to be more aggressive there. Pedro had the corner of the goal in his sight for far too long while Handanovic had his vision blocked by De Vrij for the most part. Cannot blame the keeper here.

Versus Cremonese

5) Okereke was left free outside the box, has all the time in the world and curls in an absolute beauty. Nothing a keeper can do.

Versus Milan

6) First goal. Could have been stopped as he got a hand to it and almost tipped it wide. Poor defending following the Hakan error as De Vrij who was the intended recipient had to recover his position as well. Goalkeeper was caught by surprise but still managed to get a hand to the ball. Leao shouldn't have been free with the ball in that spot.

7) Second goal. Defense slept. Tricky fluke shot that the keeper could have saved if luck was on his side. Everyone's at fault for letting this become a chance. Dumfries, Skriniar and De Vrij. We shouldn't have conceded from there and this is also where you could argue that another keeper may have saved it, not due to quality but as I said earlier, mostly due to luck.

8) Third goal. I honestly hope you're not putting any blame on Handanovic here.

So you could arguably blame him for the first Lazio goal and the second Milan goal. Anything more is being harsh on him.

The only reason I write these is because I see a lot of (negative) bias. I did the same when Padelli played a bit and will do the same when Onana gets his time on the pitch. People have no understanding of how goalkeepers react, what their capacities as humans are and generally what goalkeeping takes. I've coached this thing at some (shit tier, but still) level.

Things happen so quick on the football field that many times you can't blame it all on one person, unless the mistake is a blatant and deadly one.

On 3 goals he conceded yesterday I think his reaction to the second goal was poor and better GKs could save that. On the first goal and third one I don't blame him much, as many other top GKs could have conceded them as well.

But his decline was obvious for years now and even now with Onana on the bench he doesn't feel challenged for his spot. I think Inzaghi should give some matches to Onana to see how he does.

Last season Handa was good, this season he doesn't look good at all. If "Handa-haters" can acknowledge that, why can't "Handa-lovers" acknowledge how bad him (and the whole defence) is this season?

He is too coward to be a captain. Give the armband to someone with balls and continue playing as a GK only, I don't care. When players need a moral boost he keeps conceding easy goals.

I love how seasons where you take the armband from a player work out. Yes, let's do that.

yes, it saved our season in 2018-19, we got the CL ticket which was about to slip away because of the chaos created by our then captain.

As one that can be labeled as a "Handa apologist", the defense has been woeful and Handa should have done better on some of the goals. The question is why hasn't Onana not seen any action of consequence during the late preseason nor a start against the purported "minnows". Personally, I have no problem with him spelling Handa for a few matches.

Let’s just bench him and try onana to prove whether he is or isn’t part of the problem and whether replacing him fixes anything.

Simple.

The.. chaos started because we failed to proceed in the R16 of CL, which as I said in another thread, shouldn't have been left to the last game because Tottenham robbed PSV.

The actual chaos started after that decision, not before. Some day things will be released (Biasin already mentioned some stuff) and you'll see that it all happened after a game we actually won because Spalletti was singling out players due to favoritism, which he does in every club he goes to, and not because someone created something that wasn't there.

Recycling this story is useless, whatever happened damaged Icardi to an extreme level in the head and you'll pretend that this would have been the case even if this never happened and claim "victory" over something that's meaningless.

Who do you want the captain to be now? Skriniar, who Marotta has been trying to sell for 3 years?
