i'm watching scotland-italy. the azzurri already got the Wooden Spoon regardelss of how this match ends. i'm trying to get a grasp of how this sport works but it's not easy, the rules are anything but straightforward.

It took me ages, as someone who didn't play it when I was a kid and only watching international tournaments. It's only in the last 2 years that I can understand it 100%. I do enjoy this sport a lot though, it's closely catching up to football in my opinion.

I like the atmosphere. People are relaxed, they enjoy the game, drink their beer but don't ruin the match for the other supporters. Also I like the fair play, there's a lot more of it than in football.

As for the sport per se, I'll only express my opinion when I'm finally able to fully understand it. :eek:blivious:. However, I certainly enjoyed today's match. I don't care about the result, it's not like I was rooting for italy.

Reason its popular in scotland is that its illegal to drink beer in football stadiums but you can have beer at the rugby

The refereeing difference between football and rugby is immense. There is respect. I'm very careful to only express my opinion on a sport once I feel I fully understand it. We have all watched casual (football) fans turn up to a big tournament and say something stupid that makes us all cringe, so I don't want to get myself trapped in that net.

I have been forming my own opinions though, my best friend is a rugby man so I will tell him these opinions before going public.

Well, even as a noob, one thing I can tell for sure: if Canna is the best Italian in penalty kicks, then Italy is doomed for many years to come. :yao:

Think it was the 2011 world cup where scotland never scored a try, only penalties and drop goals. Its the one department we've had no problems from what i can remember, its only recently with players like hogg and the gray brothers where we became a solid team going forward

I don't think he is imo.

Also if you want to better understand the sport than watch some southern hemisphere rugby, it's really good.

Really pumped for the upcoming Lions tour, should be some really good games. Don't know how I feel about them playing every 3-4 days though.

I thought the Lions did well. Can't see them beating the ABs this tour though.

As for the rules in rugby. I spent my childhood watching and playing rugby so I think I have a decent understanding (although my passion for the game has mostly disappeared), but the rules in rugby are certainly somewhat complex. Especially at the breakdown. I know a lot of people who see themselves as big rugby fans who don't have much of a clue (even if they refuse to admit it). It certainly doesn't help that the game tends to have rule changes every few years (again, mostly around breakdown rules)

And let's be frank. Most football fans can't seem to get their head around what is and isn't a handball
