Just because you want to simplify everything to binary 010101s, doesn't mean that everyone is like that.

There's nothing to hate about Lukaku.
There's also nothing to excite anyone about Lukaku and for all the self-absorption and the "look-at-me" attitude, there really isn't that much.

He hasn't produced any magical moments wearing the Inter shirts. Apart from several Milano Derby goals - but not actual winners or late game salvations- there's virtually nothing. Remarkably he has achieved the opposite. He's performed wonders against the club when it matters (Shakthar "Mastercard priceless" head block, Sevilla own goal, City miracle).
For someone who scored that much, it's rather alarming how "vanilla" his passage has been. Sure, we won the Scudetto as the favorites with possibly our highest budget of all time but during these 4 years that Lukaku has been on-and-off in our lives, I can remember:
- Sanchez winner vs Juventus
- Perisic 4-2 winner vs Juventus in the Coppa final
- Inter thumping Milan in the Supercoppa 3-0
- Inter beating Milan twice in the CL semis with Mkhitaryan, Dzeko and Lautaro scoring the goals, who have been amongst the most hated FIF players even
- Sensi scoring in the Coppa extra-time
- Ranocchia scoring in the Coppa with a bicycle kick
- De Vrij getting the 3-2 vs Milan in the 0-2 to 4-2 turnaround
- Gosens getting that 3rd in Barcelona


Lukaku's biggest moment with an Inter shirt tragically could be his fight with Zlatan
And from a scoring perspective, the one moment I think most would remember his celebration was scoring the 5-0 vs Shakhtar in the EL semi final where he was thrilled as a kid getting a Happy Meal for the first time...
Maybe you can add some late game penalty goals, like Roma or Juventus [Coppa], but they weren't really winning strikes.
Or the cringe moment he took his shirt and moved to the corner flag after that 4-2 win vs Milan. I guess that counts for some.


You could also blame Covid for the lack of passion towards Lukaku but I don't think others suffer from this. I guess when his best game came in a relatively empty Napoli stadium you could argue this, but still. Too vanilla to have any sort of feelings about him with the Inter shirt.

When we look back 10 years from now, we'll have to force it to find special highlights involving Lukaku with Inter. That's where I'm leading at.

Maybe Mourinho can make Lukaku special for Roma... who knows. But he's pretty much the only high profile striker we've had that doesn't have these iconic moments and he's had more than a fair share of sample.


This is what doesn't give Lukaku extra points for me. But hate? Come on, that's the weakest claim you can make because you don't want to understand why some things are said and they collide with the narrative you want to have in your head.

I won't even bother to reply of all of your points, especially that one about special goals, but...
Lukaku scored 64 goals and assisted 16 times in two seasons. If for you this is virtually nothing, it's really pity.
The point that Inter won the title, because had the highest budget of all times is a joke. There are no guarantees that if one spends a lot, one will get the scudetto or any silverware.
And, nobody has ever claimed that we bought Lukaka because he was special or something. He came here to score goals, and because the coach deemed him very important for his system. At the end, he did what was brought for, and we sold him for the record fee.
I agree that his return was a mistake, but nobody could have predicted that he would be out so long due to an injury and difficult recovery.

The choice of goals is just pretty arbitrary. Some goals were beauties, yes. But not very important. Other were important, but like the Milito goal vs. Siena was a beauty ...

Then you mentioned some goals and the selection is pretty random. Some are beauties, not all of them. Some are important, not all of them. Then I mentioned some comparable goals/achievements.

Personally my highlights are Lukaku's 24 goals in our Scudetto campaign and that he was voted Serie A player of the year. Or that he scored in every game in our campaign to the Europa League final and was voted Europe League player of the year (well, I will also remember his own goal in the final ...). Don't get me wrong: I don't want Lukaku anywhere near Inter again. But I also see it like Besnik.

But okay, let's play your game, because you want some "iconic" moments:

• Lukaku's penalty against Juventus in the Coppa semifinal in the 95th minute.
• Lukaku's goals against Mönchengladbach in our must-win-game in the CL.
• Lukaku's goal against Milan when he received the ball in the middle of the pitch.

Because special/iconic has to matter, it's not just a beautiful goal or an important one. It's one that leaves a mark.
Recoba's debut goals are iconic because he overshadowed Ronaldo's debut. Not because we never seen such goals before or after.
Recoba's goal vs Sampdoria is iconic because of the way the season went and how the game was going, with the fans' explosion.

Samuel's goal vs Siena came in a game where we had a lot of absences and in a match that was a rodeo where we ended up even trailing. You look back in that incredible season, and that goal probably belongs in one of the top 5 moments.
Vecino's goal vs Tottenham was obviously much worse than Icardi's strike in terms of execution but it was a repeat of the goal that sent us to the CL after so many years. And it gave us the first CL victory since forever.
Pandev's FK came in a derby where everything was going south, we were playing with 9 men and once again, lots of absences since Eto'o was missing during that time for the African Cup. That goal also cemented that Milan became our bitch during that season.



Lukaku does not really have such moments. The last one you mention probably could have been one, if only it weren't for covid. But again, it's not as if that sealed anything. It was again a more "me me me" moment rather than something to remember for the team. If I had to pick a goal to remember from that one, I'd pick the 2nd with the Eriksen-Perisic-Lautaro combination, which is ironic since that trio were the catalyst to the Scudetto since January.

You mentioned a Penalty Kick and two goals in a must win game, sure, but there were still 15 minutes left, we conceded another and could have even drawn if there wasn't VAR I mean, no offense, but that's hardly something iconic to show anyone's to children 20 years from now as one special moment at this club.

So yeah, you really have to force your way into finding something where a great, special moment he's a part of. On the other hand, you name bad shit happening and he's at the top with multiple inductions. He lacks the "it" factor, under any context. Pretty much no clutch moments apart from penalty kicks.


What goals of Lukaku will a fan say proudly "I was there" when it was scored? Again, I say that covid screwed him of that Milan goal but if I had to pick a goal against Milan that season it's hands down Eriksen's where it's an "I wish I was there" moment.
