Meh.

I don't understand why people think they wouldn't have done the exact same thing in his position. He's rejoining his first big team, which, no matter who else he's played for, will always have a place in his heart. He's rejoining them at the peak of his career, as their flagship signing, with a big salary increase.

Oh, and they're European champions.
True, but it also appears odd to have that idolizing mural sitting there for a player who moved on as soon as a better contract came around.

Maybe fans shouldn't get attached to players so quickly.

Romelu Lukaku reveals Serie A is ‘a totally different game’ to the Premier League and Chelsea, while Antonio Conte ‘showed me what it took to win’ at Inter.

The striker found the form of his life in Italy, scoring 64 goals and providing 16 assists in just 95 competitive games for the Nerazzurri.

That included winning the Serie A title and reaching the UEFA Europa League Final.

Now he has returned to England and Chelsea in a deal worth €115m, a new record for a sale from a Serie A club.

“I think going to Italy basically showed the world what I can do along with me playing with the national team of Belgium,” he told The Independent newspaper.

Lukaku was asked if he felt that he needed to leave England in order to truly flourish as a player.

“I think I had to. It was also a big part of my plan to try and experience different leagues. I experienced Serie A, which was a league I always wanted to play in at one point in my career.

“Going there, you deal with a different kind of pressure and in a different way. It was good. Maturity-wise it was knowing what it takes to win and the circumstances in which you need to do that.

“Obviously, I had Antonio Conte there as a manager who really helped me and showed me what it took to win, and we did it in the second season.

“As a player it’s a totally different game in Italy. Very, very tactical. Tight spaces and in most of the games you only get one chance, and if you don’t score it gets very difficult. So, efficiency-wise that was very important, and I also learnt to play more with my back to goal and other technical aspects of the game which are really important. It was a good experience.”

Conte is famous for pushing his players to the limits and Lukaku absolutely agrees that is the case.

“To learn how to win is basically pushing the barrier. Every trainer has a different way of coaching, but with Antonio we really learnt how to go to the red zone. That was it.

“In the second season we were much more consistent in winning big games. That made the difference against big opponents.

“As a player, the Italian game is so different. It’s so tactical and technical. You have to make the right run or movement to get another player free. We always had a lot of possession, so we were playing in the opposite half. Most of the time you were back to goal, and everything was going through me.

“I remember having a conversation with Conte about this and he told me if I wasn’t good at that, I wouldn’t play. For me that was an eye-opener. Once I mastered that aspect then for me everything became easier.

“The game would slow down, and I could control the game more and give more assists. That was really something I wanted to do and I wanted to experience that in another country, where I think it would be beneficial for the rest of my career.”

There’s an interview that just came out and he talks about how his mentality has changed since he was last in England.

I only listened for 15 seconds before turning off. He comes across as being insincere and shallow. The moment he starts talking, I switch off.

Inzaghi just said that Lukaku told him he wants to go to Chelsea. So I am sure Suning loved getting that money, but if Lukaku wanted to stay he would have stayed.

Don't have one.

Footballers, especially in england are full of that virtue signaling bullshit, I have the same reaction when they start talking about something political or self-congratulatory.

Yep, I just listened to it as well, definitely seems like he pushed hard for his way out first time Chelsea knocked on our door. And I remember rano liking insta post critiquing lukaku exactly for that. We have a great team chemistry and family vibes going around the team, so it seems a lot of players kinda turned against him because of that.

Don’t understand the Lukaku hate. He was brought here by Conte, who after the project he was promised changed left the club.

His favorite manager leaves and club sells Hakimi because the owners are not capable of financing the club.

Lukaku appreciates the club can’t compete anymore and probably reached their heights with the scudetto and pushes for a move.

His personal ambitions were bigger than the club he was playing in. It’s not his fault. The club changed directions and so did he.

I think it stems from the confusion around how much he forced the move. He lost a lot of fans over that.

It turned out it was him who wanted it. And Zhang.

But the club changed direction first. To fault him for wanting out is to ignore the circumstances. So he told the fans what they wanted to hear. Who doesn’t do that.

Even your current gf will tell you bs how you the one she always wanted until something better comes along and offers her more money.

I agree, it's my impression as well they open the door for him, particularly the owners, but it also seems he ran out with smile on his face, and as we know fans don't like that.

Some want to believe in those beautiful stories of undying loyalty, and they are true to some extent, but the fact is that: exactly because fans want to hear that, it generates this level of bs we are being served by agents, players and their media teams.

The fact that he says that joining Chelsea is a dream when the board are trying to convince him (and reject a fucking 115m) is belittling in our part. And the fact Inzaghi keeps mentioning it is stupid. Lukaku will fail big time in Chelsea and you’ll see.

off course he will fail guy first touch is terrible he was good only against smaller tam that ut their defenders in 16 meter box and let lukaku turn and adjust his feet and look up and pass the ball and run that is italy tactical first movement and positioning epl on other hand is get to you as fast as they can not better just more headless running and here he will not be able to turn and look up adjust or what ever. i believe guy sucks even at inter because even slavia praha contain him and that is czech league nowhere near top leagues because slavia plays physical and pace

Zhang's Ok
Inzaghi: "It was an unexpected departure. It wasn't planned. Me, Marotta and Ausilio tried to convince him. I got to see him here in training and I understood why they appreciated him so much and why Chelsea paid so much for him. But when a player decides ... He came to me, he is a splendid and principled boy. He told me that Chelsea was his dream, that he had made the choice and together with the directors we tried to talk to him for a day and a half. we made the choice we organized ourselves in the best way, Dzeko has arrived and another player will arrive to cover this loss we had ten days ago ".
Remember when most media was headlining about china & sunning forcing his sale. Fucking hell I almost believed them because they were insisting on this everyday. Now after we know the real situation I hope the club learn from this, you can't stay silent when media leak false information that harm the club.

He's always been a diva with an inflated ego.

No idea why this forum held an ideal selfless personality of him as a player, but whatever worked for people.
